What an absolute thrill to have been involved in this project. I’m a real lucky guy. My wife, Erin, and I co-wrote two songs on the album. One with Jimmy and another with Jimmy and Mac. I’ll always remember finishing the “Audience of One” demo with Mac on Christmas morning.
I got to play keys on those two songs with my Pops and the rest of the band in one of the best studios in the world. Nadirah, Tina, Pete, and I spent 2 days singing backgrounds with Pops and Chris Stone at the helm in the control room. The whole thing was way too much fun!
I hope Equal Strain on All Parts will be yet another continuation of Jimmy’s beautiful and inspiring message of joy and love.
Jimmy had an insatiable thirst for what lies ahead and an inspiring lust for life. He was the most optimistic person I’ve ever known. I feel so lucky to have called him my friend, co-writer and band leader.
I learned so much about storytelling from writing songs together. He told me once in an interview that he considered himself an entertainer, to which I responded, you’re a hell of a songwriter to just be an entertainer. I know I’m not alone in thinking he was one of the greatest songwriters the world has ever seen.
I’m so grateful for the time we spent together on stage. As he said, “There’s nothing like it.” We figured out my big body could shield him from the crowd seeing him before we took the stage. He would sometimes sit beside me on a road case in the quiet anticipation and we would check if the promoter spelled his name right that night. I was hopeful we were just getting started with that ritual.
He was the star of the “dance floor” at our wedding and the altar boy at my “baptism” and he couldn’t help but make everyone smile, everywhere that he went. So much love to the Buffett family and our Coral Reefer family. Rest easy, JB.
