❤️ For ten years, Aravani Art Project has worked alongside the transgender community to create public art that transforms spaces and shifts narratives.
This time, we turned inward — and opened our doors. 🚪
🌱For the very first time, we are conducting art-based workshops for transgender women across India — with a focus on reaching those who have been excluded from formal education and have never had access to creative learning.
🌻 In Chennai, we began with 25 extraordinary women, in partnership with @sowndharyagopi and the 25 incredible Transwomen!
This is new for us. And it means everything.

Many summers ago. Us @aravaniartproject painting 5 buildings on the outskirts of Thuthukudi. Overlooking salt plains, on top of questionable scaffolding, over an open drain and we still had a lot of fun.
This summer is going to be even better. Here we come world. Phewwwww.
To me, this journey with Cuckoo and all the beautiful cuckoo people is one of the most important parts of my life, magical, true, and deeply personal, and like a river that quietly remembers everything it has ever touched.

The location itself was more inspiring. Surrounded by vibrant landscapes, rich culture, and an inviting atmosphere. Each corner seemed to hold a story, waiting to be told through. The local community’s warmth and openness created a comfortable environment. The fellow volunteers—each bringing their unique perspectives, skills, and stories—added a sense of collaboration. Conversations often turned into inspiration, and the exchange of ideas.

This December brought an unforgettable experience. Thanks to @volunteer_yatra ☀️ I had the privilege of participating in one of their listings, something I had been waiting for for a long time. This journey was far more than I could have imagined. Traveling and painting alongside was fulfilling as always. The opportunity to create murals, participate in art workshops, and contribute to the local community through art is both challenging and rewarding every time. It is always amazing to see how art could bridge gaps and foster connections among people who’d just met. One of the beautiful parts of the journey was making new acquaintances. This experience has only deepened my desire to explore more opportunities that combine travel, art, and community impact. #part1
