What the f*ck is traveling… I keep coming back to this question. Because where I come from, we’ve somehow reduced travel to rituals and routines… family trips to Tirupati, crowded group tours to kodaikanal or Ooty with twenty relatives packed into two Innovas, recreating the same photos at the same spots our parents visited twenty years ago. And no one really questions it. The moment you say you want to go alone, it becomes “Alone, No No NO ?” or Talk about backpacking and it’s “You are wasting money,” and if you even think of taking time off to explore, you’re told “Are you mad , get a job first ” Meanwhile, a 22-year-old somewhere in Europe takes a year off, moves through countries, works odd jobs, learns new skills, lives differently, and comes back with perspective, stories, and a mind that has expanded. Here, at the same age, we’re told, “Settle down first , then you can roam“ “ Settle down first “ three words that quietly decide everything. And yes, I know the counterarguments. European passports are stronger. They come from first-world systems. They have easier access, fewer restrictions, more freedom to move. That part is real, and it matters. But even after acknowledging all of that, I can’t ignore the fact that a big part of this is still mindset. Because I’ve seen people here with enough money, enough time, and enough opportunity…still choosing the safest, most repetitive version of travel. So no, it’s not just about access. It’s about permission, and it’s about priority. Because travel isn’t just a vacation, it’s not just a break from life…it’s what expands you. There’s a certain kind of Saturday that doesn’t ask for anything. Outside, the heat presses down hard…relentless, shimmering, the kind that makes the world slow to a pause. Plans dissolve. Calls can wait. Time stretches. And inside, it’s just us. A pile of limbs, soft snores, warm breath, and the quiet rhythm of being close. My child…solid, gentle, impossibly affectionate… curled on me like I’m their whole world. And maybe, in this moment, I am. People see an American Bully and think strength, power, presence. I see this. Velvet ears. Heavy head resting trustfully on my belly . The way they melt into me, like they were made for nothing more than love and belonging. No rush. No noise. No expectations. Just a sweltering Saturday , a still home, and the kind of cuddles that make everything else feel unnecessary. This is my favourite pastime. This wasn’t a book exchange anymore …it turned into a full-blown literary avalanche What I experienced is that rare version of these chains where everything just clicks. One copy of WHITE NIGHTS went out… and suddenly my home started looking like a personal library. And 47 books? That’s not normal luck ..that’s borderline legendary. Most people barely get 5–10. But the real story is how they arrived. At first, it was one parcel. Then a couple more. And then one day… it just didn’t stop. Doorbell after doorbell. Different people. Different packages. At one point I had nearly 20 books arrive in a single day. My security guard was completely thrown off. He kept seeing people walk in with parcels for me, over and over again, and you could tell he was trying to piece it together …What is happening here? I think he genuinely suspected I had started some sort of secret operation from home. By the end of the day, he had that look of quiet resignation… like he’d decided not to question it anymore And in between all that chaos, I was opening each package like a child …that tiny thrill of not knowing what’s inside, the joy of discovering a story before even reading the first page. Of course, the “usual suspects” showed up exactly as expected: The Forty Rules of Love (I got three copies) The Kite Runner A Thousand Splendid Suns The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari (I had a bet with a friend that this would show up.. and of course, it did 😂) Ikigai The Secret And the most unexpected full-circle moment? A frustrated rant this morning: Can we PLEASE talk about this? Lately, something that has gone from mildly annoying to completely intolerable: People who are articulate, educated, and confidently on public platforms… saying “women” when they mean “woman.” Singular. I’m hearing this from people on stages, podcasts, It’s not advanced grammar. It’s not nuance. It’s literally the basics. And yet..there it is. Everywhere. And here’s the part that really gets me… I get asked this. Repeatedly. In interviews. “As a modern women, what do you think…?” Please. I beg… No. Just… no. It’s woman. I can forgive accents. I can forgive style. I can even forgive the occasional slip. But this isn’t a slip anymore…it’s a pattern. A very loud, very confident, very wrong pattern. And what really gets me is the lack of attention. You’re speaking publicly. Representing ideas. Influencing people. At least get the singular right. I’d completely understand if this came from someone still learning the language. But this? This is carelessness pretending to be fluency. I don’t correct it out loud. But in my head? Full meltdown. Every single time. Because language matters. Precision matters. The past few days have been slower than I’m used to… a spot of illness, and more than a few trips falling through. Plans I was looking forward to, just… not happening. So I stayed in, and started clearing things out …the kind of cleaning you put off for years. Drawers, shelves, old boxes. And somewhere in the middle of it all, I found them… My CDs. From school days. From trips to Singapore and little corners of the world. Carefully chosen, carried back, played on repeat. Music that held entire chapters of my life. I sat there for a while, just going through them. And it was like opening doors I didn’t even realise I had closed. Memories came rushing in ..the happy, the messy, the quiet heartbreaks, the friendships, the versions of me I had forgotten. It felt strange… and comforting… and a little overwhelming. I couldn’t keep everything …I had already let go of so much, including a thousand DVDs. But these… I couldn’t just pack them away again. So I decided to keep a few. And more importantly, to bring them back to life in a way that fits today. I’ve been slowly recreating these old collections on Spotify …track by track, memory by memory. And somewhere in that process, I’ve been finding pieces of myself again. There’s something about music from another time… it doesn’t just play, it stays. These playlists I’m building …they’re not just songs. They’re moments. They’re feelings. They’re stories that have lived with me for over 40 years.
