The Look Back music video was recorded last year at the fabulous @dustyflowerpotcabaret by @notofficialfinn who was an absolute dream to work with. Being filmed is a super vulnerable thing for me, I have never felt comfortable in front of a camera. On stage I have the audience to connect with, but when there is a camera rolling, I freeze. But on this day I was lucky enough to film inside this venue that I have performed in, taught voice lessons in, danced in, and given oracle readings in. The Dusty Flowerpot is a magical little spot, and u can feel the good energy of all the music and dancing when u r there. And Finn has such a warm and grounded energy. One thing about this performer life is making peace between the part of myself that wants to be visible, and the part that is still not convinced that my nonbinary self is worthy of being seen. That’s internalized homophobia 4 u. But sometimes we r lucky enough to go to a magical place with magical people and just play. So grateful to the Sunday Brunch Crew who became my cast 4 the day, and to Finn and Kat for making a dream come true. This video shows a selection from the Queer Icons portraits I have been drawing since 2020, and it is a little reminder to Look Back and draw strength from our queer ancestors, who have always resisted with beautiful expressions of MORE QUEER JOY. #morequeerjoy

We grieve in public to show that it is not shameful, and to lean in to the power of commUNITY connection. We must share our griefs to heal them, they cannot be healed alone. For all who are feeling overwhelmed by the ongoing horrors of war, genocide, and climate change. For all who are grieving a death, a loss, a dream unfulfilled.
