Most animators don’t fall behind because they don’t care.
They fall behind because they keep hoping time will fix it for them.
But it won’t.
Every shot you avoid reviewing…
every weakness you “notice later”…
every time you say “I’ll fix it on the next one”…
you’re just extending the gap between where you are and where you want to be.
The truth is simple:
animation improves when you stop guessing and start getting honest feedback on your work.
Not general advice.
Not inspiration.
Real breakdowns of your actual shots—what’s working, what isn’t, and how to fix it.
If you want that kind of clarity, DM me “review” and send over your shot.

Action without reaction is why your animation feels off.
Every movement needs a response.
That’s what makes things feel real, grounded, and intentional.
No reaction = no weight, no impact, no believability.
Fix this, and your shots instantly feel more alive.
Do you struggle with this?
DM “review” if you want help with your shots.

Getting hired in animation isn’t just about skill anymore… it’s about visibility.
Studios don’t go digging for hidden talent. They hire the people they keep seeing.
If your work isn’t out there, you’re invisible.
But it’s not just about posting finished shots — it’s about showing your thinking:
your process, your improvements, your decisions.
That’s what makes leads and recruiters trust you.
They’re not just hiring your best shot…
they’re hiring your ability to consistently deliver.
So yeah — post your work.
But more importantly:
Show your growth.
Show your breakdowns.
Show how you think.
That’s what gets you hired.
What’s stopping you from posting your work right now?

The eyes are what bring a character to life.
If the eyes feel dead, the character feels dead too.
Even a few subtle eye darts can completely change how alive and believable a performance feels. Blinks are just as important—they help show thought process, emotion, and intention.
Small details like this make a massive difference in animation.
Do you ever forget to add eye darts and blinks to your shots?

Hand poses can completely change the feel of a shot.
These three examples show why it’s so important to push your finger posing instead of spacing every finger evenly. Real hands rarely do that. Fingers naturally group together in twos and threes, which creates more believable and appealing shapes.
The bottom pose groups three fingers while separating the index finger — one of the most common shapes when grabbing an object.
The middle pose is more unique and stylized, but it adds personality and can take a shot from good to great.
A lot of animators focus on the body and forget the hands, but strong hand posing adds a huge amount of polish.
Push every pose all the way down to the fingertips.
Do you usually spend enough time on hand posing?

From a recent paid review, I helped break down how Path of Action can instantly improve the flow of a shot. It’s one of those principles that can make animation feel smoother, clearer, and more professional.
Path of Action works closely with arcs. When movement suddenly breaks away from its intended path for no reason, the motion can start to feel clunky, stiff, or disconnected.
Keeping a clean and intentional path helps your animation feel fluid, natural, and easier for the viewer to follow. Small adjustments here can make a big difference.
Do you actively check your Path of Action while animating, or is it something you revisit later?

Green screen came in a lot of handy with this one. Used it for the eye transition.
DEFINITELY going to be using more in the future.
Have you used green screen?

Good animation isn’t just movement—it’s guiding the viewer’s eye. That’s where staging becomes powerful.
In the example above, notice how the hands and surrounding objects are directing attention exactly where I want you to look. Every pose, line, and movement should help highlight the most important action in the shot.
The same applies to characters. Eye lines, body direction, and posing can all tell the audience where to focus next. If viewers have to guess where to look, the shot loses impact.
Strong staging removes confusion and makes your animation feel clear, professional, and intentional.
And one of the biggest mistakes? Trying to make everything happen at once. When everything is important, nothing stands out.
Guide the eye. Control the moment. Improve the shot.
Do you actively think about staging when you animate?

For this demo reel critique, one of the biggest mistakes I see is animators using full shots when they should be showcasing highlights.
A demo reel isn’t about telling the full story of the scene. It’s about proving your skill as quickly as possible. Hiring leads want to see strong body mechanics, acting choices, weight, timing, and polish — not extra seconds of setup or filler.
Only use the strongest moments from each shot. Show the best parts, keep it tight, and make every second earn its place.
Are you still using full shots in your reel, or only your strongest moments now?
Thank you @tyyy.land for letting review your reel!

Most ANIMATORS never reach their true potential for one reason:
They stay where it feels comfortable.
Repeating the same type of shots.
Using the same ideas.
Avoiding the things that might expose weaknesses.
But growth rarely happens in the familiar.
It happens when you step into the unknown, challenge your habits, and stay open to discovering new ways to animate.
The shots that frustrate you the most are often the ones that can level you up the fastest.
If you want to grow beyond where you are now, stop asking what feels safe…
Start asking what will make you better.
If you’re stuck on a challenge in your work, DM me “review” and send your shot—I’ll help you figure out what’s holding it back.
What challenge are you facing most right now?

Better tools won’t make you a great animator… but they will make the process faster, cleaner, and way less frustrating.
This proxy mesh tool helps simplify your character into clear shapes so you can focus on what actually matters first: arcs, weight, timing, and body mechanics.
Instead of getting distracted by details, you can judge the movement on a clean readable level and fix problems early. That means faster workflow, better shots, and smarter animation decisions.
I use tools like this because efficiency matters when you’re serious about improving.
