“To name oneself after the acronym coined by philosopher John Haugeland for “good old-fashioned artificial intelligence” is already a statement in itself. In contrast to modern, machine-learning AI, GOFAI is clearly structured, rule-based, transparent, and comprehensible, and must be explicitly programmed by a human. Humans are certainly at work here—four gentlemen from Luxembourg. But everything else fits less well: rules, traceability, and structure play only a minor role; all the sounds seem to follow a very dark gut feeling, a chaotic firework of noise with plenty of distortion but no clear guiding thread, consistently moving outside the listener’s comfort zone. In fact, the band’s acronym is also said to stand for (G)rinding noises, (O)ppressive frequencies, (F)ractured jaws, (A)nti-Music, and (I)rreversible ear damage.
That fits much better. Or, more briefly: brutal noise overload. Nasty.“
