Honoured to make the brand video for the launch of @shuga.global together with my editor @andyoates . Shuga Global is the continuation of the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, and the impact they have had with their work over the last 25 years is nothing short of remarkable. The Shuga promo campaigns I directed for them in South Africa and Nigeria a few years back were some of my favourite jobs ever and that’s why it was so nice to be back with the amazing @shuga.global team spearheaded by @warbiz , @sarapiot , Akriti and Khomotso… #storytellingtochangelives #shugaglobal

For the first job of the year, @mrtreve and myself travelled to India to film for @worldrowingofficial and @quattromediagmbh at the Army Rowing Node in a place called Pune. ARN, India’s rowing centre of excellence with its Australian head coach Antony Patterson, just won World Rowing’s ‘Programme Of the Year award’ and we made a film about them. But this wasn’t just another job, but one of those really special and unforgettable experiences. Spending time on the ARN compound – a wildlife reserve come rowing channel – in the middle of the madness that is Pune’s city life, was amazing, and everyone we filmed with and encountered at ARN – from the commander to the canteen staff - was just so kind, hospitable and friendly. Apart from the awards film, we shot some other fascinating stories with Olympian @balraj_rowing , @salman_khan_rowing and India’s Paralympic power couple @knarayana_royal and @anitachoudhary483 . Especially the day we spent with Narayana and Anita at ARN and at the Artificial Limb Centre in Pune was really humbling. Like all the ARN rowers and coaches, their hard work, dedication and joyful attitude towards life, were truly inspiring. I salute World Rowing for letting us tell such worthwhile stories, and I salute everyone at ARN for welcoming us like you did 🙌🇮🇳

@gravel_burn was something else. Organised by the same people, who brought me to South Africa 18 years ago for my first Cape Epic mountain bike stage race, I knew that this international pro/am gravel bike stage races was going to be an adventure. But I didn’t expect how wild a ride it was going to be. Starting in Cape Town, we went on a 9-day camper van journey into the unknown that took us via the race start in Knysna through some of the lush Western Cape corners all the way into the depths of the semi-arid Karoo region in the Eastern Cape and finally to the Shamwari Game Reserve. Along the way we encountered some of the most spectacular landscapes, serious weather conditions - including a mini tornado – and awe-inspiring gravel biking you could possibly imagine. It was fun working and hanging out with so many familiar faces from the Cape Epic days, but also meeting some new riders like @simon_pellaud , @mattia_de_marchi and the one and only Double Olympic champion @tompidcock . What a privilege to be part of this inaugural edition and to experience a real sense of camaraderie amongst the 500 riders, TV/media crews and organisers. Cheers to @quattromediagmbh for bringing me out and to @selciras for looking after us before and after the race in Cape Town. Can’t wait for 2026!

In the presence of greatness. When @anniemacmanus interviewed Stevie Wonder for the Sidetracked podcast the other day, it was magical. It was a last-minute, quick turn around gig with blown out fuses and a few other obstacles to overcome, but what an experience it was. Stevie Wonder told some remarkable stories, sang and jammed along on his harpejji throughout the interview. He was kind, eloquent and very funny - especially doing a Cockney accent - and the chemistry between Annie and him brought sparks to the room⚡️ It’s out now on the Sidetracked YouTube channel and on @bbcsounds

@challengeroth is the biggest triathlon party in the world, a bucket list race for every athlete and an event, where the numbers speak for themselves: over 5000 athletes, 7500 volunteers and 300,000 spectators. It’s BIG basically and it was a real pleasure to work on this year’s production again with @dropintv Producing the world-and international feed with @sebastiankienle and @belindagranger as hosts, a TV highlight show and all sorts of other content, this was a mammoth task and everyone from @dropintv and the @quattromediagmbh support crew smashed it. As onsite director/producer I was close to the action for five days and it was amazing to see how the whole region goes triathlon mad for a week. And although a solid 20-hour shift on race day isn’t for the faint-hearted, I loved the whole experience and had good fun working with @fenella.langridge as field reporter…#challengeroth#dropintv #homeoftriathlon#directing #longdistancetriathlon

With @glastofest still all over the media, here are some snapshots of the pre-Glasto shenanigans I got up to directing and filming a bunch of Sidetracked Glasto specials with @anniemacmanus and @nicholasgrimshaw for @bbcsounds and the @bbciplayer My definite highlight was listening to and meeting @loylecarner A very insightful and thought-provoking chat that was tinged with the same sentimental sweetness as his excellent music is. And then there was @sirrodstewart A stone-cold legend of the game, who cruised up to the @devonshiresoho in a white Rolls Royce and served up story after story. Dude is 80, has sold over 150 million records and once played live in front of 3,5 million people at Rio’s Copacabana. I mean…And as a bonus we also did a Grimmy solo Sidetracked with the @haimtheband sisters. Cheers to the great @bbcsounds team and my boys @oscaroldershaw , @chriscam1230 and @mrtreve for the camera and editing duties…

Some work highlights from the last three months. I made a couple of teaser clips with @rapidpeaks and the one and only @dropintv crew for the @bmw_open . It was nice to shoot the new BMW iX M70 and also great working with the effortlessly cool @lenagercke . Another @dropintv production had me deep-dive into the corporate world for almost six weeks, making a film for the German investment fund EMERAM and four more films for some of their portfolio companies. We criss-crossed Germany for this one, and it was way more interesting than I expected. Ask me about routers, digital online banking platforms and electric charging infrastructure, and I’m your man! Another good one was the Sidetracked Brits special with @nicholasgrimshaw and @cmatbaby for @bbcsounds Pure entertainment, great BBC team and my man @mrtreve on the tools. And then I made a short film for @mammut with @quattromediagmbh about their climber Lindsey Hamm, who is a real champion for inclusivity in climbing. It wasn’t exactly my usual late winter/early spring programme, but boring it wasn’t! #directing#workingwithfriendsisthebest
