Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has appealed to toddy tappers in the State to revive their traditional occupation and generate more avenues of income by introducing innovative products made up of toddy. Chief Minister made this statement at a meeting with Officials of Goa Toddy Tappers Welfare Fund Board and All Goa Toddy Tappers Association at his Official residence, Altinho today.
Giving a patient hearing to the grievances of toddy tappers community Chief Minister said in view of the fact that trade of toddy tappers is declining day by day, he asked the toddy tappers to market their product and do the branding of the products on commercial scale resulting into speedy recovery of the occupation. He also urged toddy tappers association to involve young generation into this business in order to continue the trade more effectively.
Chief Minister stated that toddy tappers should take efforts to get geographical indication (GI) tag to its toddy products so the local producers will have protection for their brands. CM also directed Officials of Toddy tappers Welfare fund Board to coordinate with Goa Bio diversity Board and Goa Coconut Board to initiate various measures towards betterment of toddy tappers community.
