Reducing carbon isn’t just a future goal—it’s a responsibility we carry today. We’re excited to share GLY’s Carbon Reduction Master Plan, which outlines the measurable steps we’re taking to reduce waste, lower carbon, and build more responsibly. Why? Because the future of our industry depends on what we do NOW. This is more than a plan. It’s accountability in action. A huge thank you to Sustainability Manager Laura Soma and Project Engineer Logan Pulsifer for leading this effort and helping turn ambition into measurable impact! Learn more about where we are and where we’re going to reduce carbon emissions…link to the plan in our bio!

We’re halfway through Construction Safety Week, and it’s the perfect moment to pause and recognize some of the people who make safety real on our jobsites. With this year’s theme “All In Together” and a focus on Recognize, Respond, and Respect, we’re proud to highlight a few individuals who bring that mindset to life every day across our projects! @constructionsafetyweek

Last weekend, GLY volunteers were back at @ymcacampcolman lending a hand on a few site improvements around the camp. The crew built two sets of stairs connecting the main lodge to the new overnight cabins currently underway, plus cleared trails and tackled general landscaping to help keep things moving around the site. We’ve been part of Camp Colman work parties for more than two decades, and it’s always one of those events people are glad to come back to...fun work, fun crew, and a fun place to spend a day outside. Thanks to this year’s volunteers for bringing the energy and making it happen! #NationalVolunteerMonth #YMCACampColman

Last month, GLY welcomed the UW Ascend Seattle cohort to our office for an engaging session focused on marketing strategy. Participants explored the inner workings of a large-scale construction company and gained a deeper understanding of day-to-day operations. GLY is proud to partner with UW Ascend Seattle, with Business Equity Specialist Michelle Connor serving on the Anchor Council. It’s been incredible to witness the growth and momentum of these small, diverse businesses! @uwfosterschool

Retrofitting Seattle’s unreinforced masonry [URM] buildings is not just a construction challenge. It is a financial, logistical, and policy challenge. In Part 2 of our From Vulnerable to Viable series, GLY’s Andrew Ellis explores what is standing in the way and what it will take to move forward. From multi-million dollar retrofit costs and housing displacement to permitting hurdles and funding gaps, the barriers are real. But so are the solutions: • Tax relief and financial incentives • Code updates and alternative retrofit pathways • Faster permitting and reduced fees • Stronger public-private collaboration With the right tools and coordination, widespread URM retrofitting is achievable! Follow the link in our bio to read Part 2: Challenges, Solutions, and Resilience. About the Author: Throughout his career, Preservation Specialist + Assistant PM Andrew Ellis has worked on National and City of Seattle landmark projects, modernizing existing buildings while preserving their historic integrity. Andrew serves as Co–Chair of AIA Washington’s Historic Resources Committee where he advocates with local and state governments to reduce the cost of seismically retrofitting unreinforced masonry buildings. #FixTheBricks #SeattleConstruction #SeismicSafety #Resiliency

Building on purpose means putting people at the center of everything we do. At Emerald Heights Senior Living Community, construction of a new ALU and ILU took place within a fully occupied campus where residents were deeply connected to the outcome. That environment required more than technical expertise. It called for empathy, transparency, and thoughtful communication at every stage. The result is more than new buildings. It is meaningful connections and lasting impact. Explore how FirView and The Courtyard came together in our latest blog post by Assistant Superintendent Luke McArthur, Senior Project Engineer Demetrios Stamatakis, and Carpenter Juan Duarte.
