Heart of Hebei The native Longyan (Dragon’s Eye) grape has an over 800 year-old history in the region of Hebei, and thanks to the efforts of the likes of @Gloriville , is seeing a revival of interest. Villages, Heart of the Plain takes this table grape and elevates it through judicious long skin contact, resulting in a lively, citrussy, and nuanced nectar. Thanks to Hebei’s cooler climate and maritime influence, the region’s Marselan wines tend to carry higher acidity and more refined tannins compared to its Ningxia counterparts. @Gloriville ’s 100% Marselan Period Period shines with notes of lychee and plum, plus a vibrant salinity that gives way to an umami finish. Fascinated? TSWF: From Peaks To Plains is where you can have a taste of these wines. Tickets are selling out fast so do get yours from the link in our bio! #TSWF #FromPeaksToPlains #ChineseWine #HebeiWine

House of Dragons Set at the foothills of the Great Wall of China in Zhangjiakou, Hebei, @gloriville was established in 2018 when winemaker Li Jincheng—fondly known as Chengzi—saw an opportunity to make his own mark in the Chinese wine sphere. His family oversaw 10 hectares of vineyards planted in 1999 to serve large state-owned industrial wineries, but Chengzi took over his retired parents’ estate in 2013, immediately stopped selling the grapes and transitioned it into an independent, environmentally-conscious winery. Practising organic viticulture since establishment, Gloriville switched to biodynamic cultivation in 2023 and produces expressive wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir among other varieties. Though what’s closest to Chengzi’s heart is the grape Longyan (Dragon’s Eye), a late-budding variety with an 800-year history in Hebei, that in Gloriville’s hands, is elevated to much more than just a table grape. Those with tickets to 3 May’s From Peaks to Plains will have the privilege of not just trying Longyan in wine form, but also to speak with Chengzi in person!
