We’re very excited to announce the publication of our report “They don’t care about us”: voices from Kos exposing inhumane migration policies”, revealing the dangerous journeys, systemic abuses, and dire conditions faced by people on the move on the Greek island of Kos. ㅤ The testimonies featured in this report offer a stark portrayal of the lives of those seeking refuge, often forced into perilous situations and treated with dignity-depriving neglect. Through this report, we aim to amplify the voices of the visitors of our Hub on Kos who have faced severe hardships, offering them a platform to be heard. ㅤ At Glocal Roots, we will continue to advocate for the implementation of safe and legal routes, dignified housing, and proper inclusion programs for as long as Greece and the EU fail to fulfill their responsibilities to asylum seekers. The Hub | Kos ㅤ Kos is an island shaped by tourism, and during winter almost every business closes its doors. Now that the season is beginning, hotels and shops are reopening — and with that comes a wave of new job opportunities across the island. ㅤ This month, our Helpdesk has been busy supporting people with crafting and updating their CVs, helping them feel confident and prepared as they begin their job‑hunting. Victoria Community Centre | Athens ㅤ In collaboration with @YogaSportwithRefugees , we hosted a football tournament bringing together over 50 participants from the VCC community, partner organisations, and local shelters. ㅤ With 6 teams, short fast-paced games, and a “winner stays on” format, the day was full of energy, teamwork, and friendly competition. This is how we do it in Athens! ㅤ Every weekend in Eleonas, there’s a huge market selling clothes, accessories, furniture, etc., ... everything. As it closes around 2 p.m., piles of clothes are left behind, often going to waste. ㅤ That’s where we come in. We carefully hand-pick high-quality fabrics with so much potential, giving them a second life. ㅤ Waste isn’t waste until we waste it. We stay mindful of fashion’s environmental and social impact. ㅤ Be part of a more ecological and social way of creating by exploring our online shop and discovering pieces made from rescued materials. * This post unexpectedly reached a much wider audience than usual. Unfortunately, we had to turn off comments after receiving a large number of racist, classist and dehumanising responses. Menschen mit und ohne Migrationsgeschichte treffen sich regelmässig zu Abendessen bei den Gastgeber:innen zu Hause. Die Teilnehmer:innen lernen uns in einem persönlichen Rahmen kennen, tauschen sich aus, knüpfen soziale Kontakte und entdecken leckere kulinarische Spezialitäten aus verschiedenen Ländern. ㅤ Unsere Gruppen in Basel, Bern und Zürich mit Teilnehmer:innen aus der ganzen Welt freuen sich immer wieder auf neue Mitglieder:innen! Social Factory | Greece & Türkiye ㅤ Meet Khatol — a skilled tailor at our Social Factory in Athens! ㅤ Originally from Afghanistan, Khatol has been working with us since 2023. Every stitch she makes has a strength and deep kindness. ㅤ She arrived in Greece in 2016 with her family, and soon after gave birth to her first daughter. The Hub | Kos ㅤ March was a special month, as many of our community members were observing Ramadan. For much of the month, the atmosphere was calm, quiet, and peaceful.
