Portraits of dog owners and their dogs in neighborhoods. Owning dogs in Iran is illegal, dogs are considered “unclean” in Islam hence the anti-dog rules. It is frowned upon in public to keep dogs inside apartments . These laws have been criticized by dog owners but so far changing the laws has been a true struggle.
The relationship between these pets and their owners is mutual love, but yet the owners tolerate the criticism and objection that comes with keeping an animal companion.
Dog owners specifically are being attacked, blamed and shunned by local authorities with their animals being taken away from them.
