Most fundraising programs work the opposite way. The income comes mostly from one place: the same loyal file, a small group of major donors, or whatever event drove last year's number. When the next number needs hitting, the only lever is to lean on that one place harder. It works for a while.
The programs that hold up across decades are running on several clocks at once. The annual fund, monthly giving, major gifts, and estates all ripen on different schedules, and each tier has to be replenished while the others are giving.
