Zontiga Presents: GETIH — A Book Talk by Christopher Gio Sarsono This June, join us for an intimate evening with Indonesian photographer and printmaker Christopher Gio Sarsono as he shares the journey behind GETIH, a deeply personal photobook project exploring memory, masculinity, and the fragile complexities of fatherhood. Meaning “blood” in a local Indonesian dialect, GETIH began as Gio’s reflection on his relationship with his father. Through photographs, family archives, and fragmented texts, the project slowly unfolds as a quiet dialogue on inherited memory, emotional distance, and reconciliation. In this session, Gio will also share the evolution of the work, from early experiments and dummybooks to its final photobook form developed through the Photobook as Object program by RPS Tokyo. This June, we’re excited to welcome Indonesian photographer and printmaker Christopher Gio Sarsono for a month long series of alternative photographic printing workshops at Zontiga in collaboration with Dog Days Photo Lab. Across four sessions: Salt Printing, Van Dyke Brown, Gumoil, and Gum Bichromate, participants will explore photography beyond the digital image, returning to slow, tactile processes shaped by chemistry, touch, timing, and material resistance. These workshops invite participants to rethink the photograph not as a fixed reproduction, but as an evolving surface, one that can stain, layer, fade, react, and transform through hand-made processes rooted in the history of photography. Led by Gio, whose practice moves between analog photography, printmaking, and material experimentation, each session combines historical context with hands on learning, guiding participants through the foundations of alternative printing while encouraging space for unpredictability and personal interpretation. Coming this June, the first artist residency by Zontiga featuring Indonesian photographer and printmaker Christopher Gio Sarsono in Kuala Lumpur. Working across analog photography and alternative printing processes, Gio’s practice explores memory, migration, family histories, and cultural identity through material-based image making. Throughout the residency, Gio will be developing ongoing research and presenting a series of alternative photographic printing workshops, alongside a book talk and production based activities. “Revelations” by Christopher Gio Sarsono [Emerging Talents, 2026]

Five years have passed in this small room. Some would say it's not that long, but it's comparatively a fifth of my life already. And yet in other ways it all passes all so fast. I still remember learning all i can about darkrooms from books, videos, online, etc. Ordering custom sinks. Trying to make it all fit inside a limited space. Making do with limitations. From the very start Dog Days was started as a room for learning. My own space for growth. A lot of people asked, why i named it Dog Days. In all honesty it's a reference to the hottest days of summer and the constellation Sirius aka Canis Major aka Dog Star, the brightest star in the night sky. Dog Days as a concept was really about struggle, about resilience and fleeting moments. Everything we do especially in photography is a process of documentation, archiving, and understanding our perspective in regards to the world around us. It's a slow unwavering yet ultimately futile resistance against time. In time everything will be forgotten, lost, and diluted. There is nothing we can do against the constant flux and inpermanance of life besides our own internal resistance. Dog Days was never meant to last. It was designed to be present. Flowing with all the new ideas and extremes that came into my head. As the hottest Days of Summer, there was always going to be pains, annoyances, struggles. But without going through the hottest of days, there really is no summer to be had. And in a inversion of the day, Canis Major comes and guides as an unwavering path in the night skies. It wasn't perfect. I made a lot of friends, i lost some and drove a few away. Being 25, my journey has only just begun. Dog Days gave me the foundations to continue growing. And in this weird and wonderful world, I hope to grow a strong foundation and guiding light for more artists and story tellers. Thank you for all that have supported me and Dog Days And so in one form, or another. Dog Days will be back. And i hope more people can come and intersect with our lives in the next chapter. 3月21日（土）〜3月29日（日）の期間、 2025年度「PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT」ワークショップ参加者有志による成果発表展を開催します。 今年は11名の作家が参加します。 2025年PHOTOBOOK ΑS OBJECT 成果発表展 2026/3/21-29 参加アーティスト紹介 03: クリストファー・ジオ・サルソノ タイトル : Getih 「Getih」は、インドネシアのある地域の方言で「血」を意味します。本作は、2022年に始まった個人的なプロジェクトです。作品は、私と父との関係を探るものです。両親の離婚後、私たちは疎遠になりましたが、2020年に再び関係を取り戻す機会が訪れました。関係を築き直そうとする試みとして、私は父のイノシシ猟に同行しました。 新たに撮影した写真と家族のアーカイブを組み合わせることで、『Getih』は、男性性、父性、受け継がれる記憶、そして解消されない感情が静かに抱える重さについて省察し、対話するための場となりました。 このプロジェクトは、個人的な歴史を理解していく繊細な過程をたどりながら、共有された体験を通して、受容が少しずつ立ち現れていく可能性を探っています。 本作は、さまざまなメンターやプログラムの支援を受けながら、いくつかの段階を経て発展してきました。それはプロジェクト自体の変化だけでなく、アーティストとしての私自身の成長も映し出しています。 From March 21 (Sat) to March 29 (Sun), we will be hosting an exhibition featuring selected works by participants from the 2025 "PHOTOBOOK AS OBJECT" Workshop. This year, eleven artists are taking part in the exhibition. Photobook as Object 2025 exhibition / Introduction of the participating artist 03: Christopher Gio Sarsono Title :Getih Getih, meaning “blood” in a local Indonesian dialect, is a personal project that began in 2022. The work explores my relationship with my father. After my parents’ divorce, we grew distant, but in 2020 we were given the chance to reconnect. In an attempt to rebuild our bond, I joined him on one of his boar hunting trips. Through a combination of new photographs and family archives, Getih became a space of reflection and dialogue—on masculinity, fatherhood, inherited memory, and the quiet weight of unresolved emotions. The project traces a fragile process of understanding personal history and learning how acceptance can slowly emerge through shared experiences. This work has gone through several iterations with the support of different mentors and programs, reflecting both the evolution of the project and my own growth as an artist.

All good things must come to an end. Setelah 5 tahun, Dog Days Photo Lab Bandung akan resmi tutup. Pukul 12.00 – 19.00 setiap harinya. Teman-teman bebas untuk bertanya, berdiskusi, dan melihat proses kerja di darkroom. Selain itu, kami menyediakan FREE DARKROOM PRINT berukuran postcard untuk teman-teman yang datang membawa negatif hitam putih.
