We are excited to announce that Black Men Work, in partnership with We The People Action Fund, is launching the Jabali Project pilot program. We aim to serve black men and boys through regular mental health check-ins. Our goal is to create a more accessible mental health ecosystem. Join us every fourth Wednesday for these sessions and connect with others in a supportive, informative, and clinical setting led by a licensed professional! Take a listen to some of the experiences from our last session as well! Don’t miss out — food will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!

Some of our leaders popped to @mayormarysheffield Rise Higher Community Conversation on “Safe & Just Communities” where we advocated for real investments into mental health & protections for our immigrant communities! It was great to network with courageous community leaders and hear the stories of so many Detroiters doing amazing work that shows that TRUE public safety starts with investments into community! Shoutout to @wethepeople_actionfund policy, comms, & data teams for prepping with us. Thanks to @amodhdc for hosting us tonight!

Last night 27 folks stepped into leadership + responsibility around disrupting what’s happening nationally at the local level! New & existing leaders took themselves seriously enough to 1) identify 5 local actions to take in between now and the closing of Detroit budget season to ensure that this next budget reflects our interest! 2) Mark our calendars with a key training next month that will invest in developing even more new leaders.

12 of our fellas did a great job giving public comment for the first time at tonight’s city council meeting in District 7! The guys shared powerful, personal testimony about why we need urgent action on bridging the gap for Black men & boys seeking real, equitable mental health care that works for them! In doing so they earned 2 follow up meetings with council members! We’re building power from the root to its stems! If mental health, health care, true public safety are things you deeply care about, join us! Come to our meeting Thursday @ 7 @ Developing Kids to join in on strategy + organizing our communities around issues that matter!! RSVP in our bio! ##deeplyrooted

Go to your average public meeting with public officials and you will find that young adults are severely underrepresented! And so GRoot is asking “What if there was a townhall series that created a direct pipeline for young adults to grow more civically engaged!” The Black Male Leadership team at @wethepeople_actionfund welcomes you to “TURN UP THE VOLUME”—a community townhall meant for young adults to share their frustrations & offer recommendations for the Detroit city budget. RSVP in Bio! Want to help host this meeting? Join our Facilitators Training Feb 9th by commenting below!

We all deserve to live in a city where every family is welcomed and every community has what they need to thrive. That’s what Tim shows up for. He’s one of our leaders and while he works full time, he still shows up to fight for that future. During this election season Tim talked to people about what’s really going on across Detroit — their anger, their confusion, and their dreams. He listened. He encouraged. He reminded folks what we can achieve when we fight together. This is what grassroots care and community leadership looks like. And because of leaders like Tim, we know this city can be a place where everyone can create a life they love. So shout out to Tim! For showing up, for organizing with courage, and for making our city more compassionate and connected. 💛 ➡️➡️➡️ Hit our linktree to learn more about Ginger Root, our Black male leadership team (link in bio)
