Costume designer Sian Jenkins @sianjenkinscostume and I wanted the clothing in #UnderSaltMarsh to feel lived in, full of real life detail and naturalism. We wanted it to feel part of the environment, believable in the setting but with pop of colour and texture that would make the scenes feel alive and bring some contrast to the greys and greens of the landscape. Here you can see where Sian and I landed, as well as some of our reference photographs.
I had the same conversations about the hair and make-up. Designer Lisa Parkinson @gingerhod made some amazing wigs and beards that I challenge you to spot - the three wigs in the show are pictured above if you can guess them…?! They brought a messy realism to the characters, especially in the storm scenes (!) and the rest of the hair and make-up was a blend of weather-infused naturalism and the wonderful pop of colour from #KellyReilly
