Kaira Looro Architecture Competition - 2023
A pupil’s development is influenced by n great many factors. Essentially it can be broken down into the child, their home, their school, and their classroom. These are areas where they spend most of their time and a study done by the University of Salford found that the classroom contributes to 16% of a child’s development. Working alongside IBI Architects, the study also revealed that implementing nature into the class design, accounted for 50% percent of that percentage, and individualisation accounted for 25%.
The project is situated in a small town in Senegal. The vision is to create a safe environment that inspires local children to go to school and thrive. The project has a strict budget of €10 000, challenging the designer to use efficient design that can be constructed with local materials by locals.
