For 2 years @amandaplsplspls @chrissybounce and I have been working on a dance. We're gearing up and getting ready to share/co-create it with you in Chicago this July! In the meantime, I'm writing a series of essays about the intersections of the work and...everything? between us and everyone here choreography by @ginahs performed by @amandaplsplspls & me sound by @chienanyuan dramaturgy by @verena.moves and @misssassypants Catch us @theneofuturists theater this summer. SAVE THE DATE 7/2, 7/3, 7/5 7/9, 7/10, 7/11 A two-year process with some Very Excellent Collaborators is finally coming to fruition. We have gone through so many iterations of this work with @ginahs at the helm, encouraging us to dig deeply into Amanda and my eleven-year friendship, into the complex movement material, always asking one another what we need and how to make the work work for us. We remix the elements of this world together, letting new iterations of the material emerge through the shifting dynamics of our needs in the moment, and your curiosity. A different show every night.

Hello internet! After a multiyear hiatus, I have returned and am honestly enjoying catching up with everyone’s daily updates (although feeling rusty on the tech side of things). Pic by pic: 1. Stylin as my “shadow self” @keljacks annual Halloween bash 2. Got pregnant and 10wks later had a brutal multi-week miscarriage 3. Enjoyed Martha’s Vineyard with @joshmanderson14 and family — fell in love with sailing (a hobby I absolutely cannot afford in time or $$) 4. Completed my third sprint triathlon 5. Treasured our last performances of Tend with @khecaridance at @jmkac 6. Got a gnarly case of medial knee bursitis that took MONTHS and a steroid shot to heal (the x rays are beautiful though) 7. Was a literal celebrity at @joshmanderson14 ’s school dance — 4th grade paparazzi and everything — v glad I dressed up 8. Treasured time with my @marwoodyouthcamp counselor loves 9. Got pregnant again (spoiler: this one stuck) 10. Married @joshmanderson14 in the living room of our new house…which is my childhood house 11. Frankie and Scooter nested 12. We prepared for our as-yet-unknown baby, Harriet Ray Anderson, who was born in early December 13. I am now a mom who can carry a folded stroller in one hand, baby in the other, and pump in many contexts. Not sharing pics of our little one on socials but she’s the absolute cutest (not biased at all)

Finished a Sprint Triathalon a few hours ago. First race ever. Loved it all until the last 10 minutes where @joshmanderson14 and @jeninpixels were thankfully there to cheer me on. Officially leaving social media now but thought I’d go out with one final brag since that’s what these platforms are best at (except spreading rampant misinformation of course). I’ll miss keeping up with folx from afar but the extra head and heart space is worth it. Sending love… #chicagotri #sprinttriathlon #preraceselfie #byesocialmedia

Interrupting my social media hiatus to share that it’s @joshmanderson14 ‘s birthday and I am super grateful that he was born because he’s fun and kind and adventurous and he knows how to show up and how to chill out. Basically he’s awesome. #birthdayphotobooth #loveinaction #inadvertentlymatching

For months now I haven’t been wanting to dance. Instead my body has been desiring soft stillness, so I’ve been honoring her by doing so. Then, @ginahs started offering class at @therootedspace and I started wondering if my desire for stillness was tangled up in a subconscious freeze response. I’m holding space for both. I do feel a resistance to dance right now. In a lot of ways (maybe one day I’ll share), I feel betrayed by Dance. This ancient visceral modality to express and grieve and celebrate and infinite other ways doesn’t always make it’s way into dance classes (or how we treat ourselves… or into the dance industry itself). That hurts me, it hurts my heart, it hurts my soul. What has been really really lovely is that I’ve been able to bring all of this stuff into class with Gina, and as a collective we all try to hold and move through the heavy stuff together. I can feel my internal dialogue softening and I get to reconnect to what I’ve lost: to genuinely enjoy and celebrate dancing in a class setting with other people. I am soulfully grateful of people like Gina who really care and are really trying to dismantle how Dance, dance spaces, the dance industry (etc.) got so shitty and oppressive and made us question our value and our worth. Dance is INFINITELY MORE THAN THAT IN INFINITE WAYS. This is the phrase that we did today sans music 🥰 If you’re in the Chicago area and looking for a dance class, come join us Friday’s 11:30-1pm. I promise it’s not always as heavy as this post might be 😅 it’s curious and gentle and fun and so many other things. Come find out for yourself ♥️

I spent this Fall biking up to Loyola University every T/R morning to teach Ballet III at 8am. I was determined to cultivate a space in which every student felt they belonged and where we spoke regularly about the aspects of Ballet culture that foster white supremacy, patriarchy, ablism, heterosexism, fatphobia, and so much more. These students blew me away with their commitment to embodying the form while questioning its culture. I was proud to see their final performance and can honestly say that I will miss watching them tendu with such integrity. It’s an honor and pleasure to be on the faculty of the @lucdanceprogram and I am so grateful for this opportunity. Also, what a bunch of cuties! #balletisanethnicdanceform #danceteacher #unlearning #balletclass #lucdance #loyoladance #dancefaculty

Frankie and Scooter are enjoying some much needed rest after the holiday hosting and festivities. Frankie would like you to know that she’s a bit iffy on having her picture taken but she approved this shot as long as it was in black and white (strong aesthetic sensibilities). #catanddog #dogandcat #monochrome #snuggles #petsnuggles #dogcatsnuggles #catdogsnuggles

Marketing my interests and efforts on social media makes me want to channel our cat Frankie, take my catnip banana, sit in the middle of the couch so no one can join me, and take a nap. I encourage you to do the same. #catoncouch #catspiration #socialmediaburnout #marketingsucks

Together Moving is a contemporary modern class with a responsive mixed of anatomical exploration, movement sequences designed for experimentation, and communal discourse. We still-build, strength train, and move move move. It is sweaty and somatic and radically anti-hierarchical with an emphasis on floor work and inversions. Fridays 11:30-1pm @therootedspace Sliding scale: $5-15 Sign up link in bio
