FUTURE SELF: THE NEXT CHAPTER
Back in 2018, Football Beyond Borders recognised the importance of creating safe spaces for our boys to reflect on the pressures they face today; how cruicial building healthy relationships grounded in mutual respect, empathy and compassion and giving them opportunities to express themselves in authentic ways. Itās how our module āWhat Makes a Man,ā powered by Gillette, came to life.
2 years ago, 5 boys from our North-West region met for the first time to explore together the future they want for themselves and what it means to be a man today.
Last month, we were proud to premiere the film that grew from that day, Future Self, at Peopleās History Museum.
It was a privilege to hold space for John-Mark, Tyler, Lord, Rudi and Jacob to put their future first and think about the versions of themselves they want to build and to welcome Lord, Jacob and John-Mark back to the stage for a panel discussion alongside Tom Highton and Fernando, an FBB graduate from the very first What Makes A Man cohort.
Hearing them reflect on their journeys, with such honesty, confidence and self-assurance, was a powerful reminder of whatās possible when boys are given time, trust and someone in their corner. (Highlights from this discussion dropping soon!)

What would you say to your future self?
We have worked with Gillette for over five years on the topic of male role models and modern masculinity and weāre are incredibly proud of the impact of our partnership, reaching around 7,500 young people through our shared curriculum module across London, the Midlands and the North West.
