Crazy to think it’s been almost 10 years since we were teammates, but I’m grateful to still call you one of the homies. Happy birthday brother!
It’s been 3 years (😱) since my last race but this past weekend reminded me how much I love speed skating.
Sure, it wasn’t a “real” speed skating race but the camaraderie and competition is something that I’ve really missed since I retired. Having speed skated for 19 years, I sometimes took it for granted how lucky I was to be able to do something I loved, surrounded by around awesome people. To win was great, but this weekend brought up so many great memories and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a “skater” again.
Side note, for those of you wondering, jumping into an all-out sprint after a three-year hiatus was probably not the best idea and I am definitely feeling it today 🫠 but who knows, maybe there are some more races for this old dog down the road.

In 2014 Gilmore Junio gave up his spot at the Olympics for Denny Morrison to race, and now Morrison is flipping the script 👏

What an electric weekend at @theolympicoval ! ⚡️⚡️⚡️ It was so cool to see the building rocking again and full of genuine excitement around speed skating. I can’t lie, I’m a little jealous World Champs never came to town when I was skating but to be a part of the competition in a small way was pretty special. Cheers to (hopefully) many more weekends like this in the future 🤞🏽and congratulations to all the skaters, especially the Team Canada homies who rocked out!

The moment you realize your childhood dream, “I’m going to the Olympics!”. Hard to believe this was 10 years ago! Still one of the best nights of my life.
