We are deeply saddened by the loss of Maxine Modesta Anyango, who represented Team Uganda with immense pride and passion at the 2025 Giants of Africa Festival. Her spirit and dedication touched us all, and she will forever be remembered. Rest in peace, Maxine. To her family, teammates, and the entire Ugandan basketball community—the GOA family stands with you in love and grief.

"Giants of Africa has really helped me dream big." For GOA alum Emily, moving to the U.S. was just the beginning. Between the pressure to fit in and a season-ending knee surgery, she learned that the game is about more than what happens on the court. It’s about the purpose you find when you’re forced to slow down. Basketball opened the door, but her tenacity is what keeps her moving forward. 📚🏀 A setback isn’t a stop sign. It’s an invitation to build something even stronger from within.

"I am Somali, and we are Africa." For Abdirahman Abdalla, the Giants of Africa Festival was more than a basketball tournament – it was a revelation. Despite coming from different cultures and religions, Abdirahman saw firsthand how one ball can connect an entire continent. 🏀

“In 10 years from now, I don’t see Africa as a place that’s catching up, but as a place setting the pace.” — @michaelblackson 📈 The heartbeat of the continent is changing. At AfriCAN 2026, visionaries, creators, and the diaspora gathered with a shared, unshakeable truth: our future is not something we wait for, it is something we author. ✍🏿🌍 The talent is limitless. The drive is undeniable. The greatness is #BuiltWithin.

The energy at AfriCAN last night was undeniable. ⚡️ From the incredible cuisine and music to the conversations that kept us late into the night, it was a beautiful celebration of our culture and community. To everyone who showed up to share these moments: thank you. A special shoutout to @michaelblackson and @boriskodjoe for the powerful insights, and to @hassanphills for keeping the room laughing. Your voices and stories prove that the ambition of Africa has no ceiling. 🌍✨ We are deeply grateful to @TD_Canada , Wellington Advocacy and @cassels_law for their continued partnership and commitment to empowering youth both on and off the court. Last night was just the beginning. Stay tuned for more highlights! 🎥

By investing in women coaches, we aren’t just teaching the game – we’re building a support system that lasts. ✊🏾 In Guinea and Sierra Leone, our Women's Empowerment Initiative provides the acute attention that proves to campers they belong in this game. From diagrams on a clipboard to one-on-one sessions on the court, these coaches are the ones who give the next generation of young women a voice and the confidence to use it. This is how a movement grows: from the inside out. 🌍🏀

Unity and momentum in Conakry. 🇬🇳🏀 We are proud to unveil our first-ever Giants of Africa court in Guinea, marking the second location in our Dribble for Peace initiative. This space is a physical declaration of our commitment to using the game as a tool for unity and leadership across the continent. For the local community, this court is a jewel, a dedicated space that belongs to the neighbourhood. Seeing the court come to life is a moment of true joy that will help the local youth by providing a safe, inspiring place to play and grow. For Ramatu Ujiri, this build was deeply personal. Having grown up in the area, she knows firsthand the talent and drive that exists within this community. This space wasn’t just built for the game; it was built for the next generation of giants to realize their potential.

Country 21. Court 47. Sierra Leone. Some milestones you count. Others you feel. The welcome we received in Freetown reminded us that this work is bigger than numbers — it's about the coaches who show up, the communities who open their doors, and the youth who will carry what's built here long after we leave. The court is open. Let's build. 🇸🇱🏀

"You can't forget where you came from." 🌍🔥 Those words from Michael Blackson say everything about why AfriCAN exists. We built this night for the professionals, the leaders, and the dreamers in Toronto's African diaspora who carry their roots with them everywhere they go. Masai Ujiri, Boris Kodjoe and Michael Blackson bring the inspiration. Hassan Phills brings the laughs. And the room brings the unstoppable energy that only happens when community comes together. AfriCAN. May 6. Toronto. 🎟️ Don't wait on this one, grab your tickets at the link in bio.

Conakry, this court is yours. 🇬🇳🔥 At Université Gamal Abdel Nasser, we unveiled a brand new basketball court as part of our Dribble for Peace initiative – bringing sport and opportunity to countries across the Sahel. 🕊️ Look at the centre of this court, and you’ll see a torch. It’s not just design – it’s a symbol of the knowledge, passion, and leadership that already lives inside the students and youth of Guinea. While all courts hold a lot of meaning for us, this one is special for Masai Ujiri and his family: „This is our first time working in Guinea, where my wife’s roots run deep, and that connection makes this moment especially meaningful.“ To the Giants of Guinea: Dream big, and know that we’re in your corner.
