The third FANART in my Indie comix #6fanartschallenge focuses on the forthcoming comic Peng Valley by @a_guy_called_james I read this comic back in its original webcomic run and was enamoured by its mix of 90s nostalgia and trippy visuals. James has spent the last year working on a Redux version for print and it looks amazing. You can peruse his 'gram for some tasty making of shots and give him a follow to know when the book is being released. Jammo has a really cool cartooning style that is reminiscent of the old DC Thomson kids comics like the Beano. This heightens the nostalgia factor even further for me, as in the era in which Peng Valley is set I was still regularly getting the weekly comic that served as a way to distribute Refreshers bars to the nation's youth. Peng Valley is set in Britain (Wales specifically) during the early 90s and tells the tale of two guys named Dave who win big on the darts-themed gameshow Bullseye. It features amongst other things magic darts, Jim Bowen, PWEI shirts, the Big Brekkie, Acid House music, 90s hair (the Daves sport curtains and a flatop respectively), and extreme tree-hugging. If that weren't interesting enough the whole comic is framed by a mutant family drama set in the distant future in which one character regales his son with the Daves's rag to riches story. In my FANART I have portrayed some of the future bods looking at some Dave-themed media and being visited by a psychedelic Dave apparition. I do plan on colouring all these pieces in a master post once the set is completed, but tis black and white for now while I keep up the momentum.

FANART of Halloway, Gauthier and Babu from TALES FROM THE INTERFACE by @ink_orporate - Québécois comix genius Emmanuel Filteau. This is the second of my #sixfanartschallenge with an indie comix focus. I stumbled upon M. Filteau's work in 2017 and was instantly hooked by the alt-comix Moebius stylings and dreamlike quality of the first story featuring Babu. The first two volumes of the comic follow an episodic format where along with Gauthier we dive (sometimes literally) into the virtual worlds of the Interface. These stories have a very Twilight Zone vibe, or for a more comicsy reference think 2000AD's Future Shocks- short sci-fi romps with a twist. The head honcho of Transcervical, Mr. Halloway, serves a similar function to Tharg- he even beats his art robot! Drawing this lil tribute made me appreciate the level of intricacy and research Manu brings to his worldbuilding. For example, rendering the scales on that snakey boy was a tricky challenge which he faced panel after panel and page after page. There is a little bit over 28 hours left to back the Kickstarter for the printing of volume 3 of TFTI, which promises to reveal more about the "real world" of the Interface. It is already funded so no risks and the next stretch goal is a fun one, if the project reaches 4k Manu will take the clippers and give himself Gauthier's signature hair-do!

FANART of The Imperfect Prophet from @flumpcomix I thought the old #sixfanartschallenge people were doing last year would be a fun way to jumpstart my artistic resurrection. Rather than drawing a buncha mass mediated corporate owned mascots I thought t'would be cool to use this as an opportunity to celebrate and spread the word about some of my favourite creator-owned comix projects. First up is FLUMP, the comix outlet of @ltatlockart - a horrifically talented arteest hailing from thee septic isle. FLUMP is a heady brew of comics with an X and lowbrow art stylings, positively overflowing with squishy ickyness and croutons of crunchy cartoon violence. T'ain't just a visual feast though, tis bloody funny stuff and all due to Mr. Tatlock's particular way with words and some spot-on satire on the predicament of being a Brit-flavoured humanoid cursed to live in the 21st century. I tried my best to emulate this madness in my scrawling here, but you will be best served by toddlin' over to the @flumpcomix account and bathing your eyes in the true mad glory on shameless display there. There you can follow a link to get your digitized mitts on the actual comix product, and it just happens that today is the day that the second serving is available.

@brutesaysay does this monthly #linejam thing where he provides the isolated colours from a piece of his own work for artists to draw their own "inky" lines over. The #linejamapril has a great silhouette to reinterpret (see second slide) and the exercise was so fun it was able to invoke a long dormant ghost! Thanks Alejandro!

I remember when I was learning me thems alphabets I was having a lot of nightmares about that ultraviolent Kicking King character. I feel that this friendly smiler would be a less threatening avatar for the 11th number of the hieroglyphs. #inktober #ghostpockets
