SPRING // SUMMER Inspired by sunny days, with equal parts nostalgia and adventure. Flavors you somehow crave, despite never experiencing them quite like this. Tapping into your favorite fruity Tiki cocktail, the delicious malted milkshake you had at that one old school burger place, or a childhood memory of a frosty root beer float. They’re simultaneously familiar, yet brand new. No need to choose between comfort and adventure - we’re tackling both. We hope to see you soon. #ghostnotecoffee #seattle #seattlecoffee #specialtycoffee #signaturedrinks

ANNOUNCEMENT We are beyond thrilled to announce the soft opening of our second shop, located in Downtown Seattle on the ground floor of the historic Seattle Tower building.  Seattle Tower, located across the street from Benaroya Music Hall and steps away from the Seattle Art Museum, was constructed in 1928 as the Northern Life Tower. It is widely recognized as the first art deco building in Seattle. Thanks to the meticulous upkeep of its caretakers, Seattle Tower maintains its illustrious Jazz Age flair to this day. In designing our shop from the ground up, we’ve built a warm alcove that plays off of these art deco themes and provides a vibrant atmosphere for experiencing our distinct menu. This has been a labor of love a year in the making. We’ve worked tirelessly to dial in every detail, from restoring the original mahogany wood in the space to ensuring the brass plates on our espresso grinder shine with art deco splendor. We’re incredibly proud of this space, and so excited to share it with the community.  See below for our address and current soft open hours. Expanded hours and grand opening date to come very shortly. In the meantime, please stop by during our soft open hours, grab your favorite drink, and say hello! And make sure to take in the stunning beauty of the Seattle Tower lobby. We hear it goes well with a cup of Oatnog.  1218 3rd Avenue M 7:30am-2pm T 7:30am-11am W 7:30am-2pm Th 7:30am-2pm 📷 @justinmkimphoto #seattle #seattlecoffee #artdeco #downtownseattle #specialtycoffee #ghostnotecoffee

𝑀𝒪𝒞𝐻𝒜 𝒮𝐻𝒜𝒦𝐸 We here at Ghost Note laboratories discovered an extraordinary breakthrough. During our usual experiments of splitting atoms and warping spacetime to develop new drink recipes, we found that there is something previously unknown that exists between a mocha and chocolate milkshake. We presented our findings to a panel of esteemed philosophers and scientists. After an even split of the greatest minds debating whether this is more of a mocha or milkshake, we decided that it is both and neither, at the same time. The one thing that was never up for debate? It’s even tastier than the sum of its parts. The craziest part - it’s also totally vegan. Espresso is shaken up with super creamy, rich drinking chocolate. Available as is, or malted for a more old school milkshake flavor. #seattle #seattlecoffee #specialtycoffee #signaturedrink #mocha

𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 We're capping our anniversary week celebration with a very rare image of the Northern Life Tower's lobby from when it initially opened. Even with the grainy quality of the image, the sense of grandeur is unmistakable. Swipe to the next image to see how amazing of a job Seattle Tower has done preserving the brilliance of this grand hall. We're working on some big plans with Seattle Tower for this lobby in 2026. Stay tuned. And don't forget to stop by to celebrate our 1 year milestone before the week comes to a close. We're here today 7:30-2:00 and Saturday 8:30-2:00. #seattlehistory #seattlearchitecture #seattlecoffee #downtownseattle #seattletower #seattlesmallbusiness #specialtycoffee #craftcoffee #coffeepeople #ghostnotecoffee #oneyear

𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 In 1928, the newly formed Seattle Broadcasting Company acquired the radio station KFOA and changed its call signal to KOL. A year later, they moved into the ground floor of the brand new Northern Life Tower, opened a studio for KOL, and began broadcasting live music, radio series, variety shows, and more. KOL's studio consisted of a large main studio, a control room, and an announce booth. The pièce de résistance of the studio was a hybrid instrument of sorts, combining a theater pipe organ and a wurlitzer. Both were obtained from local Seattle theaters (the Grand Theatre and Colonial Theatre, respectively). As films transitioned from the Silent Era, where live musical accompaniment was common, to "Talkies," many theaters got rid of the instruments they used for live music. They often ended up at radio studios like KOL's Northern Life Tower outpost. KOL maintained its studio on the ground floor of the Northern Life Tower until 1952, when it closed operations in the tower and moved its studio to the location of its transmitters on Harbor Island. In the early 1930s, while KOA graced the airwaves from the ground floor of this art deco beacon, the Seattle headquarters of J. Edgar Hoover's FBI was in full operation elsewhere in the tower for 2 years. Crazy to think of the history permeating the walls of this place... Stop by and join us in celebrating the history of this building and our history in it! 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 In addition to housing the business of the Northern Life Insurance Company along with other fascinating operations (more on that later this week), the Northern Life Tower was also home to a unique restaurant experience. The Persian Dining Room was a restaurant spearheaded by Margaret Terrell. Terrell was a professor of home economics, nutrition (then referred to as "dietetics"), and institutional management at the University of Washington. Her vision for the Persian Dining Room was to provide an elevated culinary experience where her students could work and gain hands-on experience managing a culinary operation. Wildly ahead of her time, Terrell was also an early pioneer of the now ubiquitous open kitchen concept. While no photographs exist of this, the Persian Dining Room has been described as having no barrier between the kitchen and the main dining room. This approach fit well with her emphasis on efficiency and transparency, skills her students were able to hone while working at this beloved training ground. The restaurant was particularly known for its butterscotch pie desert. Rumor has it that Ghost Note might be developing a new signature drink in its honor. We are committed to carrying on the legacy of culinary excellence in Seattle Tower. Stop by this week to celebrate our first year in the building. 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 In March 1929, the Northern Life Insurance Company officially opened their resplendent art deco masterpiece, the Northern Life Tower (known today as Seattle Tower). At the time of its construction, it was known as Seattle's first skyscraper. While not technically the tallest building in Seattle (the Smith Tower in Pioneer Square was 11 stories and 100 feet taller), its commanding position on a hill over Elliott Bay and several key architectural features gave it the majesty to dominate and dazzle Seattle's skyline. The architects Albertson, Wilson, and Richardson designed the structure to be a harmony of modernist Art Deco impulses and naturalistic flourishes inspired by the Pacific Northwest itself. The color on the tower's brick facade is set in a gradient pattern meant to represent Cascade crags, culminating in pale terracotta evoking a snow capped summit. Metal rods adorn the top of the building, jutting skyward like ancient evergreens. The grand lobby of the building continues this naturalistic theme. An ornate art deco cocoon of brass and marble, it was designed to feel like a cave that opens up to the symbolic mountains towering above. Beautiful detail work like the etching above elevator doors evokes Pacific Northwest plant life. Visitors are overcome with a sense of splendor, awe, and timeless stability. "'The old order changeth, yielding place to new.' How better exemplified is the law of ceaseless change than in the long road traveled from cave to skyscraper?" -- The Northern Light (Northern Life Insurance Company newsletter), 1934. We're celebrating our 1 year anniversary in this amazing building all week long.
