News of Palestine is often riddled with words like "conflict" and "tension" with a tendency to reduce human pain down to numbers and statistics.
What defiantly pervades through the obfuscation of quantitative reporting is the fact that there were, and are, real people here.
Mariam Mohamed al Khateeb is a writer and a poet whose account of her experiences in Gaza are beautifully and heartbreakingly conveyed in a poem - "I didn't know the mores of war or the roads to refuge"
Mariam's sibling, Marah, is a painter with plans to study engineering.
Mariam's sibling, Zain, is a professional chess player, Kung Fu black belt, sports coach and honors student.
