Sometimes I get the chance to just fuck around with ideas and it turns out awesome.
@ana_karen67 hit me up on a Thursday to shoot something open-ended the upcoming Sunday. I agreed and wrote a short script that night around 1am.
Friday I spent some time running to thrift stores and Ross with my kids looking for props and also ordering some backdrops on Amazon that were available for next day delivery.
Saturday night (aka early Sunday morning) I went into the studio after my kids went to bed and steamed the vinyl back drops, dressed the futon in our studio with the linens I bought from Ross. I also rigged up a bar for the overhead shot.
Ana drove in around 10am with
@meghanduerst and a bunch of awesome props. We put the finishing touches on the set, which was held up with c-stands and shot until like 4pm. I edited a rough cut that night.
The last scene was done by spraying some spray paint I had laying around the studio on the letter to make it more flammable and using a trick with butane gas and soap I figured out a couple years ago when shooting an album cover with
@amberdelarosa . I think I might have accidentally singed some of Ana’s hair. Oops.
This was Ana’s first time acting and somehow she was even able to elicit real tears. Phenomenal.
A couple weeks later she rewrote the letter in the film and we recorded it with
@ovids_exhibit .
All of the sounds were downloaded from YouTube and other free sfx sources.
@josiahwalker_ helped with making them sound more realistic and enlisted the help of
@bryangwin who did a spectacular job with the score.
Holy shit the things you can do with some basic gear and good friends.
