Sorry for making so many posts like this recently - I just don’t like making reels, but have a lot on my mind. I am in the middle of making a career pivot, and by the end of the year I will REALLY have to dial in. My idea is to still direct and coordinate Get Well, but find people I trust to collab, book and run a lot of events without me. People that understand how to do this in the way I explained. People that are as community forward as me. People that won’t bring drama and egos into the room. People that know how to approach EVERYONE with empathy, rather than judgement.
Personally - 2nd out of 4 is my favorite slot to play for this reason. Doing this over a couple decades, I’ve learned a long time ago that if the touring band has little to no network in a city and you put them on third - not only are more people likely to stand outside, but many people will leave if they only came out to support their homies in the first two local bands. Just a tip 🫡
I made a post recently about how we need to show each other more kindness, because a lot of the trauma and dysfunction people carry is the same thing that shaped the art we all love and pulled so many of us into this world in the first place.
This is another reminder that we did not all come from the same place.
Even if your life was hard, there are people around you who had it easier than you, and people around you who had it worse.
For some people, punk was fun, friends, politics, records, shows, and self-expression.
For other people, it was a sanctuary from poverty, violence, addiction and being abused by the people who were supposed to protect them.
That does not make one person “more punk” than another. But it should make us slower to judge each other’s rough edges. We can hold people accountable and still remember that a lot of us got here because we were trying to survive.
Punk, hardcore, metal etc. this translates across all scenes.
We are one month away from @prideonpassyunk - and as many of you know, I collaborated with them, @spellbound_studio_ and @brokengobletbrewing on coordinating the live bands for the event!
There is no cover and this is all ages! Can’t wait to see all of you!
