«Не забывай меня, своего дедушку» “Don’t forget me, your grandfather” Further and Further is going online on March 26! 26 марта на платформе «Поля» — большая премьера.

Further and Further by Tanya Chekhova premieres on @pole.media ! When a family ends up scattered across different countries, 94-year-old scientist Vladimir Fridkin embarks on an exhausting journey to meet his great-granddaughter. It is a gentle, heartfelt story of a grandfather’s love, seen through the eyes of his granddaughter. A documentary filmed by Fridkin’s granddaughter, Further and Further is a portrait of a man of rare inner irony, the creator of the Soviet “xerox,” a poetry lover, a caring grandfather, and a vulnerable elderly man. The film is available on Pole.media for a donation of 3 eur or more. Link in bio! People always wonder about the secrets of long living. Is it a healthy lifestyle? Is it brain activity? Is it good ecology? For my grandfather, I think it is love. Love for life, love for his family, love for himself. These are some very uncommon features for a Soviet person raised in the era of collectivism. Being 40, I am very lucky to still be able to call him, talk about all kinds of things, and feel the strength of his emotions. Being aware of this privilege, 6 years ago I started filming him whenever I came over to his old-fashioned flat. Every visit felt like a film itself. Witnessing the love-hate dynamic of him and his wife reminded me that we all are children despite the age. Further and Further will premiere this Sunday, on the 16th of March, in Nijmegen at @insciencefilmfestival

Yesterday I reached a long-awaited milestone and finished a very personal documentary I’ve been working on for 5 years. It’s a film about my grandfather and all the distress the war with Ukraine has brought to our family’s life. I screened the film to a very small group of people whose opinion is very important to me, and I was relieved to see that it sparked all kinds of emotions and memories in the audience. As so many awful things and struggles have been happening to me these past 3 years, it’s a giant breakthrough and a step forward. FURTHER AND FURTHER “Now in his mid 90s, renowned Russian physics professor Vladimir Fridkin lives in Moscow trying to navigate between two polarized worlds: an authoritarian and disconnected Russia and his Western values. The full-scale invasion of Ukraine has permanently separated Vladimir from his daughter and grandchildren, who he is deeply attached to. Feeling consigned to oblivion, and in a tumultuous relationship with his wife, he swings between fatalism and optimism. Longing to see his loved ones forces the 94 year-old to embark upon a taxing journey which could be his last. Filmed through the lens of his granddaughter, Further and Further is an emotional and intimate film about family separation full of love and humor. This light hearted documentary offers a nuanced and easy-going portrait of a family torn apart by an ongoing political crisis, relatable to millions who endure similar traumatic events.” I want to thank all my family for supporting me and just being themselves. I want to thank the ones who worked with me on the film (not all of them want to be mentioned for security reasons). And I want to thank @borisnemtsovfoundation for support. The documentary is starting off to festivals, so wish me good luck! Unfortunately before the official premieres at festivals I can’t do more screenings, but I really hope to come to your town! I met Rostislav @lesha_poi while filming Levi’s Music Project documentary in 2019. All the guys there were super young (15-21), and he was one of the most experienced and motivated young musicians I’ve ever met. We became close friends very soon, and I could witness his professional growth and infinite struggle of a creative person. Rost is from Krasnodar, a southern city in Russia, and he made a decision to study vocals at a jazz college in Moscow, and left to pursue his career there. By the time we met he’d already issued some songs, and they were beautiful. It’s super difficult for young Russian musicians to promote themselves now. No money to leave and start all over abroad, hard to get foreign fellowships, and in Russia there are almost no instruments of promotion left. After I left Russia for good Rost came to visit me in Istanbul, and we decided to play around with some ideas of a music video for the song “Plakala” that he just wrote recently. The process was fun and easy. The idea is super simple but I actually love the result. We wanted to show the sense of losing your footing in a big city and drowning in an information ocean, being lost and trying to let go. The video reminds of my last days in Istanbul, when I was wandering around these dark side streets high on emotions and alcohol, completely lost and unsure about the future. Let’s support @lesha_poi by listening to his music and sharing it. The songs are great and he deserves it. Link in bio. ✨✨✨ Amazing mixed media by Katya @_m__ss_

It’s amazing how this city became mine right as I came here. I didn’t really feel the trauma of losing my home until I realized I’m losing it again. The last few weeks were tough and all of my sorrows popped up: leaving Moscow forever, the war, quitting all Russian projects and being financially dependent, miscarriage, stress of putting all the efforts into a project and uncertainty of the future. I started overthinking these things again and again and the only thing that helped me out is the people here. I’m so thankful to all of you for such a great support. People here are so sincere. I haven’t been in such an inspiring crowd before. I haven’t felt so much love before. I haven’t been so sad to leave before. Thank you my friends. This is so precious. Love each one of you. love love love love love (it sucks I can only post 10 photos)
