💙 GetEcstatic: More Than a Training Group 🌊
GetEcstatic isn’t a club, business, or formal organization. We’re a group of friends who’ve grown into a small training community that shares a love for freediving. Along the way, we’ve organized competitions at cost, created videos, and even printed t-shirts—just for the fun of it.
Now, we’re adding a new purpose: any profits from our projects will go directly to the CureAHC Foundation.
As some of you may know, two of the GetEcstatic founders, Tom and Lene, have son, Patrick, who suffers from a rare genetic condition called Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC). It’s a debilitating disease with no real treatment or cure, and it impacts Patrick’s quality of life in ways that are hard to put into words.
But there’s hope. The CureAHC Foundation is driving incredible progress in research and trials for a cure. With continued support, they can bring us closer to easing Patrick’s suffering and giving families like ours hope for the future.
Thank you for being part of our journey—whether you’re training with us, joining a comp, or picking up a t-shirt, you’re helping us make a difference. 💙
If you’d like to make a donation, or find out more about CureAHC visit Patrick’s page (link in bio)

A walking to the bus stop rant.
Let’s just stop blaming hyperventilation for everything that goes wrong in Freediving, shall we?
Start taking note of your emotional and physical state, and yes, learn how to manipulate them through controlled breathing if you have to. Tidal breathing ain’t all@it ’s cracked up to be.
P.s. I’m not usually this grumpy, but the suns finally out and my buddies are in the ocean today 😅

She sambaed on her warmup rv at 20s less than her regular warmup time and I thought it was game over.
Slowed the breathing right down for the attempt as a result.
Then this happened 🤷♂️
07’06” white card 🔥🎉🥳 NR

Two routes to CO₂ tolerance. One is about learning to enjoy the challenge — leaning in when you have that mental energy and confidence. The other Boris calls “the route of perfection.”
When your technique is so dialled that every stroke is identical — he describes it as moving through butter — something shifts. Your awareness fills every corner of the dive. No room left for the struggle. No room left for thoughts.
I’ve been thinking about this one since we recorded it.
Boris has been competing and coaching for a long time, and what I find rare about him is that despite being scientific at the core, his methods are built from thousands of hours in the water — experience. Talking with him felt less like an interview and more like ideas just kept surfacing.

This conversation genuinely made me happy.
Boris has been in this sport for so long and his love for it is just... infectious. The way he talks about competing, his training, the people — you can feel it.
I think everyone listening to this series is going to get a lot from this one — especially the oft’ neglected pool divers 😊

Last month, a friend and freediving buddy experienced a serious and unusual accident during pool freediving training — temporary paralysis of all four limbs and breathing muscles, while fully conscious.
He’s asked me to help share his story. He wants to remain anonymous, but he also wants the freediving community to know this happened — the better informed we are, the safer we can dive.
This wasn’t a blackout. This wasn’t an LMC. Standard pool safety protocols don’t cover this.

Elaine unpacks whether CO₂ adaptation is mostly a physiological process or a psychological one.
For her complete answer check the link-in-bio and listen to the entire podcast on YouTube. I think you’ll agree it’s an interesting one!

I started this series to investigate CO2 adaptation. Episode 4 goes much further.
Elaine Hicks (LCSW) presents the case that the cranial nerves we use to equalize and Frenzel are the same ones involved in social connection, safety, and emotional regulation — drawing on polyvagal theory and her clinical experience working with trauma.
