Something big is here….. If you’ve passed by Arte Américas lately, you’ve probably seen a massive new installation transforming the side of our building. Neighborhood Watch by Isai Soto was created in light of community organizing in response to ICE terror. Isai fictionalizes a large protector for the migrant community. He collages a large missing-link-style caricature of beloved luchador, “Blue Demon”, as a parallel metaphor of communal strength and an absent structural champion. Stop by, take it in, and experience this striking public artwork before it’s gone. Show off your best lucha pose, snap a photo, and tag us! Neighborhood Watch is now on view through May 31! _______________ Algo grande está por aquí… Si has pasado por Arte Américas últimamente, probablemente hayas visto una nueva instalación gigantesca que está transformando la fachada de nuestro edificio. «Neighborhood Watch», de Isai Soto, se creó en el contexto de la organización comunitaria como respuesta al terror de ICE. Isai imagina a un gran protector de la comunidad migrante. Crea un collage con una caricatura a lo «eslabón perdido» del querido luchador «Blue Demon», como metáfora paralela de la fuerza comunitaria y de un defensor estructural ausente. It was Saturday, and you were telling me about that time, where Frankie no—Didi—an Uber Black bashed her head into a wall. There was blood everywhere! Althea I shouted, and Althea didn’t respond, but yet also acknowledged a certain time for my voice to travel. And then like an inverse crash of lighting, we heard the sound first. Who ordered this pizza? We had no money so I took off my pants. I got into the car and put the thing in neutral. If there is such a thing as neutrality amidst so much devastation, as if there was such a thing as mestizaje in face of a revolution. Now hold on, I believe in the mixing of the races. I even told Frankie—nay, Didi, maybe Uber Black, let’s get the nicer one. To be fair I got paid yesterday. I also got impaled in the butt, not by Cupid, but by a real gun. The gun was big and it hurt. OOOOOUCH! I yelled and the doctor took off his glove. “yup, you got a case of the love bug.” Thank you, Doctor. Happy Valentine’s to you too. 📸 @bayareacurrent
