Soon to celebrate his 80th birthday, @gered_mankowitz is easily among the most important, prolific and hard-working photographers of the last century. His new book ‘Gered Mankowitz: Photographs’, published by @accartbooks_ , is due for release on his landmark date, showcasing 65 years of his illustrious career from 1960-2025. Mankowitz made an in-demand name for himself in London’s Swinging Sixties scene, turning his lens on the likes of Marianne Faithfull, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Elton John and many more. With accompanying text from the man himself - a naturally, highly entertaining storyteller - ‘Gered Mankowitz: Photographs’ is a must-have edition to any music photography library, while also presenting his stunning commercial work #geredmankowitz #photographer #musicphotographer #musicphotography #photobook

Gered Mankowitz: Photographs We have been celebrating Iconic Images’ photographer Gered Mankowitz’ new book, Gered Mankowitz: Photographs with a retrospective exhibition at Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly. We’re now in the final week of the full show with last chance to view this Saturday. The book, which is published today, brings together a selection of his most classic, collectible and cherished work from six decades as a music photographer. This retrospective celebrates the career of an artist who “pioneered the art of rock photography”* creating images “so ingrained in music culture that they are the defining images of the rock and roll era.”** The show may be coming down soon but Gered’s work is always available to view at our galleries in Piccadilly and Chelsea as part of our permanent collection and signed copies of this epic book are available to purchase from the galleries or online at iconicimagesgallery.com *Kevin Cummins ** Jill Furmanovsky 📸 by Gered Mankowitz / Iconic Images ‘View shop’ to purchase fine art, visit: iconicimagesgallery.com or contact: [email protected] License photography from the archive: iconiclicensing.net

Paint it Black at 60! Today marks the 60th anniversary of the US release of The Rolling Stones’ single, Paint it Black. 1966 was the year I shot the At Home series with The Rolling Stones. Artist Christian Furr and I created a piece to celebrate Paint it Black based on two shots of Mick at home. The piece is part of my current retrospective exhibition, Gered Mankowitz: Photographs at Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly and is featured in my new book of the same title. 📸 by Gered Mankowitz / Iconic Images ‘View shop’ to purchase, visit: iconicimagesgallery.com or contact: [email protected] License photography from the archive: iconiclicensing.net

*Gallery Highlights* Gered Mankowitz is here to tell us more about one if his iconic images which is currently being exhibited in his retrospective show at Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly, Gered Mankowitz: Photographs - this striking image of The Yardbirds captured outside Gered’s studio. The Yardbirds in London, 1966 — Limited Edition Print English rock band The Yardbirds are captured outside Mankowitz’s Ormond Yard Studio during a photo session in London in 1966. The band kickstarted the careers of three of rock’s most famous guitarists, Eric Clapton, who left the band in 1965, his replacement Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck, the latter two of which are pictured here. By a stroke of luck, this portrait also features the symbol of the British establishment striding past wearing his bowler hat, snapped between the legs of the singer Keith Relf. * 16” x 20” and 20” x 24” editions of 50 * 30” x 40” editions of 25 and 50” x 53” editions of 24 * Signed and numbered by Gered Mankowitz * Gelatin Silver Print * Unframed and shipped flat 📸 by Gered Mankowitz / Iconic Images ‘View shop’ to purchase, visit: iconicimagesgallery.com or contact: [email protected] License photography from the archive: iconiclicensing.net

*Stoned Sundays* When I was shooting with Keith as part of the “At Home” series in the summer of 1966 at his then new home of Redlands in West Sussex, the builders were very much in evidence refurbishing the place. We thought it was funny to drag this old loo onto the lawn for the classic Keith on the throne shot! 📸 by Gered Mankowitz / Iconic Images ‘View shop’ to purchase, visit: iconicimagesgallery.com or contact: [email protected] License photography from the archive: iconiclicensing.net Hasselblad 500C, The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards, toilet

*Gallery Highlights* All that’s missing is the sea! Gered Mankowitz is here to tell us more about one if his iconic images which is currently being exhibited in his retrospective show at Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly, Gered Mankowitz: Photographs. This fabulous image of Wham! featured on the cover of the August 1983 edition of ‘Smash Hits’ magazine. “Shot in my Hampstead studio for the cover and pull-out poster of the August issue of Smash Hits magazine, I made a beach scene to echo the bands’ recent Club Tropicana hit which was in the charts at the time. I designed the shot so that fans could stick it on their walls either way up according to which of Andrew or George was their favourite!” - Gered Mankowitz Gered Mankowitz: Photographs is on show at Iconic Images Gallery Piccadilly until May 16. 📸 by Gered Mankowitz / Iconic Images ‘View shop’ to purchase, visit: iconicimagesgallery.com or contact: [email protected] License photography from the archive: iconiclicensing.net George Michael, Andrew Ridgeley, photography, music photography
