OK, here goes. The Tour de France. Honestly, watching it on TV when I was a kid, it felt like something that happened in a different universe. I dreamt of racing it, of winning it, but I never for a second thought I would.
Kids from Cardiff don’t ride the Tour.
And then, in 2007, there I was on the start line. Now I’ve raced 14 of the flipping things.
Winning it in 2018 changed my life and I will never be able to quite believe that I did that. But honestly, just riding the Tour is the biggest pleasure of all. Experiencing the race, the country, the people, the fans, it’s something I’ll never ever forget or take for granted.
A huge thank you to my teammates who’ve been there with me along the way, every single staff member who’s been on the journey, and to you all for following along. It feels very weird to think I’ll never race another Tour but I’m so proud to have done it 14 times.
And, it turns out, kids from Cardiff do ride the Tour.
Merci 🇫🇷🫳🎤
Thought it was time we made it official. Yes, this will be my last year in the peloton 🤝 It’s not been a bad run eh? Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine being a pro for 19 years. There’ll be lots of time to reflect but, before then, I’ve got some big races to prep for 👀

The Lloyds Tour of Britain was special for a number of reasons this year - of course, a certain bike rider retired 👀 - and it was a reminder that the British cycling fans are some of the very best in the world.
Luke and G loved seeing so many of you on the road and handing out their Lloyds Upstaged award on the pods during the race, to the fans who went the extra mile.
It was made possible by @lloyds.bank , who’ve breathed life back into the Lloyds Tour of Britain and embarked on a journey with British Cycling to inspire people to take the next turn of the pedal.
There’s a special highlights video on YouTube now. We can’t wait for next year 🇬🇧🤝
Hopefully a good reminder from my book to always give it your best, enjoy the ride, and not take it all too seriously. I pretty much stuck to this and didn’t go too far wrong. Don’t worry though, I took the book seriously 😂 And you can get a signed copy by hitting the link in my bio 👌 Big thanks again to everyone who’s enjoyed it so far.
This time last night. 👌
The most fitting final retirement party for @geraintthomas86 . A huge thank you to every single one of the 1,800 of you who came out to celebrate G. We had singalongs, a lot of laughs, a few tears, the legendary Rod Ellingworth, show stealer Mike Bubbins, Cor Meibion Taf and, of course, G and Luke.
Until the next time. Cheers 🍻
Grab a cocktail or a mocktail and kick back with the Geraint Thomas episode of the Sigma Sports Cafe Ride. Now live exclusively on the Sigma Sports YouTube channel.
After a blistering multi-disciplinary career both road racing and on the track, G’s palmares places him as one of the greatest riders of all time - so it’s a wonder how Matt Stephens nearly misses his impressive trophy collection.
Out on the road, it’s an easy short ride for two guys with their racing days behind them, as they discuss what the future holds without breaking a sweat. In fact, the very definition of a ‘café ride’ is truly tested when the pair order Piña Coladas and relax on sun loungers in what looks suspiciously like the Cote d’Azur sunshine.
