Post-marathon comedown is over.
84km on the board, one tiny session survived, and confidence slowly returning 📈
Mostly easy miles, and convincing myself pints count as recovery.
6 days till @hackneymoves 👀
First day back in the office after London & a bit of holiday can only mean one thing… the return of the run commute ☕️
Back to:
- early alarms
- packed bags
- dodging commuters
One thing I’ll always make time for before heading out the door is some breakfast first. Keep it simple… then it’s onto my trusty @tesco porridge in the office, which is probably responsible for at least 50% of the marathon build.
3 key sessions on the road to 2:12 ⏱️
• 5 weeks out: 3 x 10km
• 4 weeks out: 5 x 5km
• 3 weeks out: 35km @ goal marathon pace
⚠️ Built up to these kind of sessions over a long period of time - not something I’d suggest copying outright, but a glimpse of what worked for me.
200km weeks. Full-time job. This is how I made 2:12 work.
Routine came first. Early mornings to make sure I had time to run before work and consistency week on week.
Recovery… not something I absolutely nailed, but when I had the time I tried to make it count. Sauna, ice baths, and as much sleep as possible just to keep things ticking over.
Fuelling was huge. I was eating a lot more than usual - snacks at my desk, constantly topping up. At that mileage, you can’t get away with underfueling.
And lastly, balance. Missed most midweek work drinks, but made sure Saturdays were still social. Seeing friends, switching off a bit - enough to keep it sustainable.
1 week post London
Feeling very grateful for everything. Some highlights have included:
- interviews with @talksport , @timesradio & @theobserveruk
- few more of you here to follow along the journey
- some R&R in @elgounaredsea
Some lowlights:
- my energy bill doing absolute madness
Time to get back on it next week
T-2 weeks till @hackneymoves

Reflecting on the amazing performances put down by the team a week ago today and the results really speak to the quality of the team and the power of receiving elite level support across the board 🚀
