Seeing Justin Bieber, Wizkid, and Tems together at Coachella took me back to 2008.
That was when I first went to Nigeria to write and research a film I’m still trying to bring to life. Long before Afrobeats became a global force, people there told me it would. They knew what they had. I believed them, and I’ve stayed connected to it ever since. The first two images are from 2008. The last is from 2026.
Watching that Coachella moment was a reminder that travel, research, and real immersion give you an edge most people don’t realize they’re missing.
That kind of authenticity stays with the work.

One of the things I love most about writing and shooting narrative film on location is the research — meeting people, spending time with families, and understanding a place from the inside. I’m always grateful to be welcomed in. That’s where authenticity comes from.
