I made TWO brand new āBeach Findsā artist books for the occasion, one for Muskegon and one for Cleveland. Come handle them in person at the opening on April 30th, 5ā7 pm. Hope to see you there! #artistbook #greatlakes @cantonmuseum
Author, artist, and educator Geo Rutherford visits AADL for a deep dive into the strange science and stories behind the Spooky Lakes of Michigan!
From unusual geological formations to surprising environmental phenomena,Ā @geodesaurus blends research, art, and storytelling to reveal what makes these waters so captivating.
Join us on Friday, May 1 at 6:30 PM at the Downtown Library.
Um yes helloooo. Photo dump from the last five months of painting Spooky Rivers! š„µ Since the end of Spooky Lake Month, I worked every day, all day to finish over 100 paintings for my new book (the sequel to Spooky Lakes!) You would think it would have been easier painting the second book but in a lot of ways it was harder?? I had such high expectations for myself and struggled in different ways than the first book. Why did color get harder this time?š But I made it! I finally finished ⦠and then mentally crashed. I really havenāt stopped constantly working since September 2024, so to say Iām burnt out is an understatement.
Now that my schedule has cleared up a bit, I want to start making lake videos againā¦buuuut when itās been a long time since the last one, itās a little scary to jump back in. Maybe I just need to make a Lake Baikal video to break the seal? (Get it? Nerpa??) maybe an ice dam video! Iām so obsessed with ice damsā¦
But no worries, only 205 days until October 1st š«”

Did you know Spooky Lake Month's creator, @geodesaurus , is in Wisconsin?
For six seasons now, each day in October, Rutherford has shared a new video about the history and science behind spooky lakes and other āhaunted hydrologyā for more than 2 million followers.
In 2022, she coincidentally ended up living on one of these Spooky Lakes. She and her mom, Sandi, welcomed WPR to their property to share some of that journey and tell us about Fish Lake.
