Jakeen stopped Ronisha in a D.C. metro station in 2020 and struck up a conversation. He made sure to see her again the very next day. What started as a simple hello turned into dating, then deep love, then a blended family—raising Ronisha’s young daughter together and welcoming two more children of their own.
In 2025, persistent stomach pain led to a devastating diagnosis: stage 4 stomach cancer that had already spread to his lung. Jakeen began aggressive treatment, but his health continued to decline.
Time became the most precious thing they had left, so our team moved fast. An incredible group of wish granters came together to create a wedding for them. But as the day approached, Jakeen’s condition worsened. He was admitted to the ICU.
Our team didn’t cancel. They pivoted. The hospital became the venue.
Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Jakeen and Ronisha were married in a bedside ceremony, followed by an intimate reception right there in the hospital. The entire day was filled with love, joy, and moments this family will hold onto forever.
Just hours after saying “I do,” Jakeen passed away.
Our hearts are with Ronisha and their three children as they honor his life and hold tight to these memories.
