After 40 years Junji Yasuda’s film masterpiece “Performance” will be available on DVD. This video, features the full live footage from their performance at the punk magazine “POW (PUNK ON WAVE)” launch gig held at Nakano Public Hall. fully remastered video, and remastered audio, which was originally recorded on open reel tapes by Tam from The Stalin. The footage is fused with Vietnam War imagery personally selected by Sakevi. Originally released in 1985 as a highly limited and uniquely packaged video box, stamped with a metal label. The DVD package faithfully reproduces the video package, and this first press edition, will contain one of 4 different 8cm bonus CDs containing unreleased rehearsal and live G.I.S.M. recordings. We cannot guarantee which bonus CD you get, and if you order multiple boxes, we cannot guarantee you will get different bonus CDs.

If you missed our last newsletter, here’s some of the great new distro titles in the webstore. From Sweden is official reissues of the Crudity material on LP, a huge favorite of mine, and the Oral “Slagen I Blod” LP never before on vinyl. A couple new Beach Impediment releases from RDHP and Mujeres Podridas, and the excellent Smarthearts 12”. A great batch of stuff from Mexico, the 2 Funerales Cristo Rey cassettes (Highly recommended!), and 2 incredible punk art zines from Abraham Diaz. From the UK is the “Shot From Both Sides” book by Paul May, a huge tome of 400+ pages of stories, photos and info from the 1980s UK punk and HC scene. Paul did Final Curtain Fanzine in the 80s and remains one of my favorite and most influential fanzines of all time. From Canada is a limited split 7” from 2 exciting new traditional crust bands, Extensive Slaughter and Portal Tome. There’s restocks from No Fucker, Psych War, Condumb, and Mopar Stars. I’ve also restocked all 3 very popular official reissues of Dead Ends from the Philippines, and the Deceased LP. These Pinoy reissues always go fast, and will probably be the last time I restock them.

Available now for pre-order! The debut 7” from NYC’s Disket. Formed by members of Baby Shakes, Mala Vista, and Vaxine, Disket fuses the sounds of punk and powerpop to make an infectious and anthemic hook filled single. Harkening back to the late 70s era when punk records had no fat on them, a trimmed down double A side 7” you absolutely had to have before the album came out just in case that fantastic B-side didn’t end up on the album.
Black and limited green vinyl 7”s will be available from the band this Saturday 1/24 at TV Eye in Ridgewood, NYC as the band joins Templars, Loosey, Veneno, Nancy. Mailorders will begin shipping the following week.

Thanks to all the amazing bands and people I worked with this year, all the friends who stopped by to help assemble records, came over and worked mailorder, and everyone else who supported the label by picking up records, writing reviews, etc.
General Speech sometimes gets branded as a “reissue label” but more accurately it’s one person who releases what they like, and feel a personal connection to. Sometimes that stuff is old, and sometimes it’s not. This year most of the releases were from active bands you can go see live, or invite to your city to play, and it feels great to be excited about the increasingly excellent punk scene right now across the world.
I’m especially proud of the bands and people on the east coast I’m close to, and see working hard to make sure punk is thriving and ensure the door is open for young bands and punks who want to participate and carry on the next generation of punk. It gives me hope that punk will remain a subculture that continues to speak out against injustices and offer a positive alternative and community for people in the future.
Last 3 General Speech releases of the year: the debut LP by Dust Collector, and debut 7”s by Arson and Zyclone are available to preorder. Stylistically these are all in the raw punk camp, and all 3 are among the best and strongest releases I’ve heard all year. (check them all out on the General Speech Bandcamp)
Also on the website Ferocious X from Osaka are releasing their first LP this month after 25 years as a band. General Speech is taking pre-orders for the copies we’ve been promised.
I’ve also re-stocked the GATES LP, those restocks are already in transit and will arrive next week.
Pre-orders for the official Lip Cream reissue LPs are also live. Unfortunately I do not know what color vinyl I am getting.
Last up is 4 new import titles: Discharge - live LP from their early era with a massive booklet of ephemera, Stalag 17 discography from Italy, and 2 80s Yugoslavian darkwave official reissues from GRC and La Strada/Luna
