이번년도 2026년 2월 14일 발렌타인 데이, 그날 나는 특별한 시간을 보내게 되었다. 벌써 20년 가까이 되었다. 그동안 우리나라의 전통을 현대적으로 해석하여 후세에 길이 남기고 싶은 작업을 죽을 때까지 해야겠다고 다짐한 지. 그래서 나는 그 꿈을, 내 자신을 부수며 나아가고 싶었기 때문에 미국 땅으로 오게 되었다. 큰 이유는, 그리고 단 하나의 이유였다. 그렇게 나는 대비녀, 첩지, 노리개, 귀걸이 장신구, 신라 금관 티아라 등을 전통적으로 재해석하여 뉴욕 패션쇼를 하게 되었다. 준비하는 과정이 당연히 힘들었지만, 그 힘듦조차 감사했고 가슴이 두근거렸다. 이 무게와 힘듦을 지닐 수 있는 그 순간이 감사했다. 나에게 이러한 체력과 열정이 아직도 있다는 것이 감사했다. (15년 전쯤 밤길을 걸으며 달을 보며, 내가 이 공예를 사랑하는 마음이 죽을 때까지 사라지지 않게 해달라고 간곡하게 기도했는데…) 감사하고 뜻깊은 나날을 보낸 그날을 나는 이렇게 기록하고 싶다 ❤️ —/ 곧 있을 7월 2026년 에 개인전 그때는 나의 전통을 현재로 재해석한 작업과 페인팅을 선보일 준비를 하고 있는데, 긴장도 된다. 다들 응원해주러 와주길 바라는데, 많은 분들이 오셔서 대화도 나누고 좋은시간을 함께 나누는 자리가 되기를 바라고 있다 🤩💓🥰 /— On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, 2026, I experienced one of the most meaningful moments of my life ❤️ For nearly 20 years, I’ve dreamed of reinterpreting Korean tradition in a modern way and creating work that can be remembered for generations. That dream is one of the biggest reasons I came to America. This year, I had the honor of presenting my modern interpretations of traditional Korean jewelry and ornaments — including Norigae, Tteoljam, earrings, and Silla crown-inspired tiaras — at New York Fashion Week. The process was challenging, but honestly, I was grateful for every part of it. Grateful that I still carry this passion and love for my craft deep in my heart. (About 15 years ago, I remember walking alone at night, looking at the moon, and praying that my love for this art would never fade.) Now, I’m preparing for my solo exhibition this July 2026, where I’ll be sharing new jewelry pieces and paintings inspired by Korean tradition reimagined through my own modern perspective. International Pageant Day may have come and gone yesterday, but it still feels like the perfect time to reflect on moments like this 🤍✨ Interviewing @audreyeckert_ , Miss USA 2025, during the @genart VIP NYFW dinner at @nylovebbq for @beautyaffairli was one of those full-circle experiences. We discussed how she keeps her fashion genuinely “Audrey” while balancing her pageant identity and so much more. Twenty years in the pageant industry—and it never gets old seeing my worlds collide. From the stage to storytelling, to sitting across from women who embody both. Based in New York, I presented a tiara inspired by the Silla crown at the New York Fashion Show on February 14, 2026. This piece reinterprets the organic rhythm and movement created by the gogok and circular charms of the crown, while translating the tree-like motifs—symbolizing life and growth in the Silla crown—into my own sculptural language. Through this process, I sought to transform historical symbolism into a contemporary sensibility. In 2025, my work was also worn on the Miss USA stage, further introducing the beauty of Korean tradition through a modern lens to a wider audience in New York and beyond. My practice is rooted in reinterpreting the symbolic and spiritual essence of Korean heritage, not as mere reproduction, but as a living language for the present.
