GEMS Presents Varsity 005: S.A.A.S. to the Future
He barely went to classes. He barely ate a reasonable dinner. Then one night, he spent all of his SAAS... Sound familiar?
We’re back at the Berkeley Suite on Thursday 9th April, and this semester’s send-off is a big one.
Chelliis & Ryan B take the reins for what promises to be one of the most unique sets the Varsity series has seen. Chelliis is one half of DRUMA, the Edinburgh-born, Glasgow-based duo whose sets blend dub techno, acid, house and electro, with a weekly Wednesday residency at Bananamoon and regular appearances at Sub Club, La Cheetah and The Berkeley Suite. Ryan B brings the BURNA energy alongside him; outwith being an outstanding DJ, Ryan has been a regular face at our weekly Bananamoon open decks, and has proven himself time and time again with deep cut selections and effortless mixing. This is one to look out for.
Loose E returns to round out the night. The Filipina-Scottish DJ has become one of Glasgow’s busiest emerging performers, bringing a high-energy blend of UK bass, breaks, UK funky and UKG to dancefloors across the city. Supported by the likes of Differnt, Denham Audio and Goldie, and closely aligned with Baremaximum and Femmedm, she’s one of the most exciting grassroots forces in the scene right now and were proud to call her one of our own.
GEMS is a student-run community at the University of Glasgow providing a platform for DJs, producers and music lovers to connect and grow. The Varsity Series continues that tradition, taking artists from their first open decks session all the way to the booth and beyond.
SAAS once again returns and we all know we wont be spending it wisely.
However that being said, if you’re suffering from financial difficulties and still want to attend, get in touch on Instagram @gemsoc
Get down early.

Ryan B forms 1/2 of Burna, a Glasgow based duo known for delivering set across Scotland. Having played the likes of Berkeley Suite, La Cheetah, and Cabaret Voltaire for promotors including All U Need and FLY Club, Ryan has carved his presence in the scene.
A regular at Rendezvous playing deep warmup up sets for artists like Jasper James, Alec Falconer, and Harry Wills. With additional appearances on Bloop London Radio for @JohnnyJohnny Records, Brixton Radio, and Clyde Built Radio, Ryan has spent his fair share of time in the booth.
Excited to play with Charlie, Thursdays set will show a different, deeper side of his collection. A type of set he’s been looking forward to playing for a long time.
