The seventh annual TIFF Tribute Awards @tiff_net , in partnership with Rolex and supported by RBC, Don Julio, and Fairmont Royal York, took place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Oscar-winning actor and previous Tribute honouree Brendan Fraser served as Honorary Chair. We had the privilege of attending the world premiere of HEDDA, directed by Nia DaCosta, featuring a magnetic lead performance by Tessa Thompson at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film follows newlywed Hedda (Thompson), the gun-loving daughter of the late General Gabler, who finds herself precariously dissatisfied with life. She persuades her timid yet ambitious husband George (Tom Bateman) to host an extravagant party they cannot afford. Among the distinguished guests is Eileen Lovborg (Hoss), a celebrated author whose book on sexuality makes her both a fascination for Hedda and George’s fiercest rival for a coveted academic position. To Hedda, the gathering becomes a stage, with each guest serving as a pawn in the ruthless game she intends to orchestrate. The screening was followed by an engaging Q&A, where DaCosta emphasized that Hedda represents a modern woman.
