GDEN Locals are a series of smaller meet-ups across the UK. Each meet-up includes filling out a survey collectively, in order to capture what’s going on in our studios, classrooms and communities. The insights gathered will shape September’s national gathering and wider work moving forward. We expect the meetings to last between 1-2 hours, please see initial schedule in the post. If you’re interested in hosting one please DM or email [email protected]

Dear GDEN attendees, IMPORTANT UPDATE: We are sorry to announce that we have made the very difficult decision to postpone the GDEN Big Things event tomorrow, due to the weather warnings. After checking the latest weather and travel updates, and having received numerous emails from speakers and attendees about train cancellations, especially those coming from the North or the Midlands, we think it is best for everyone to stay safe and to not make long journeys tomorrow. We will be in touch soon about a new date and we’re sorry for any inconvenience. Send our very best, GDEN Committee

BOOKS + LUNCH Lunch on Friday will be communal and collaborative, think potluck-style. Please bring a dish to share, or a packed lunch with a little extra if you’re able. We’ll provide labels for dietary requirements and allergens so everyone can eat safely and comfortably. We’re also encouraging attendees to bring a book to swap with someone else, as a way of sharing current reading and exchanging knowledge. The following publications will also be available to purchase at the end of the day: @tendenciesbulletin is a printed socialist zine exploring poetry, art, football, fashion, politics, people, and place. Issue 7 was shaped by a visit from 17 members and collaborators to the MayDay Rooms Archive, used as a living resource to help envision the future. ‘Font Pro: The Irreducible Practice of Robert Schenk’ is No Hype Type’s first publication, co-run by @ayayaykok and @abc.lacy , celebrating the prolific work of the “amateur” type designer Robert Schenck. * Please note: these publications are separate from the book exchange.

We’ll be ending the afternoon with a workshop on HOPE from Darren Raven. Exploring how hope is not a mood or attitude, but something that educators do, test, withhold, share, or struggle to sustain. Darren’s workshop will help educators identify where hope already exists in our teaching. It will be: – a language for hope – a spectrum, not a binary – a collective reflective method, not therapy or motivation Participants will leave with a recalibrated sense of what counts as meaningful pedagogic work. @drnraven
