We are very pleased to share the External Examiner for GDA 2025/2026 is Professor Amandine Alessandra.
Amandine Alessandra is a researcher and graphic designer from Réunion Island. She is a professor at the UQAM School of Design (Montreal, Canada), co-director of the TAO Lab (Typographie et approches obliques) and a member of the CELAT research centre.
Her work focuses on ephemeral, collaborative and performance-based forms of typography, and on the material and ecological conditions of design in the post-digital era. Through low-impact processes, her research explores how graphic forms can be conceived to transform and disappear over time, challenging conventional assumptions around archiving and authorship, while foregrounding forms of togetherness within the design process.
She pursues these investigations in her forthcoming monograph, Ephemeral Typography: Writing the Impermanent (Bloomsbury), and in the collective volume What Future for Design? What Design for the Future? (Presses du réel, in French), which she co-edits.
Her work has been presented internationally across educational and public contexts, including typographic performances at the V&A Museum in London, the ALBA Design School in Beirut, and for Earth Hour in Berlin in collaboration with WWF.
Her current research extends these questions through experimental publishing formats, notably through a photophobic artist’s book whose images gradually fade when exposed to light, materializing the instability of memory over time.

PAPERJAM is back once again! This time we are organizing a student market during the ArtEZ Art&Design Open Day on the 12th of march! The market is open for the general public and run by us, the PAPERJAM team.
Who are we? PAPERJAM is run by Anne-Sophie Berting and Julia Verweij. We are 4th year Graphic Design students and started this project two years ago to create a platform for ourselves and fellow students to be able to sell their work to a larger audience.
We aim to give students a place to be able to sell their work at a fair price. Are you interested? Let us now in the form below who you are, what you would like to sell and what you need from us!
If you still have some products lying around from previous markets, we’d love to have you again ☀️
Lots of love,
the PAPERJAM team 🖨️

The awesome year 4 @gdarnhem cohort today started their final semester! Major Research Project, Pracfical assignments and personalised lunch plates with a honourable texture nod to @notyourtypefoundry , courtesy of the combined efforts of GDA coordinator @patriciabosveld , the printing and ceramic workshops at @artezuniversityofthearts and of course some local charity shops 🍽️⚡️🙌
We had an inspiring and thought provoking symposium titled ‘Algorithms got the power (?)’ last week together with our friends at @dat.artez.nl@artezuniversityofthearts . With the speakers > Katarina Petrović @james_blondich > Ambika Joshi> @computational_mama and > Richard Vijgen @richardvijgen sharing their practice and exploring their relationships to machine learning, learning in communities, AI tools, networks, the use of LMM, creative systems and processes and more. Students also engaged in Lunch Specultation - organised by @dat.artez.nl student Ying Drubbel.
We also had a screening of the student work done as part of the workshop by @jeancharlescounet titled Outer Shell / Inner space as well as the workshop TRIPTOPUS! led by Doeke Wartena and Merijn van Moll.
In Triptopus! students engaged in digital gardening by sculpting objects with various (8!) tools - analogue, digital, AI and whatever - but not in that order! iteration and the order of process was central to the experiences and engagement with the works.
In Outer Shell / Inner Space students looked at the friction between observed reality and synthetic subconscious. Documentary film captures the maker’s perception and observation. Generative AI adds a new dimension as instrument for expression. Behind optical reality lies Inner Space: a chaotic landscape of emotions, memories and abstractions that eludes perception. What visual language emerges when documentary truth collides with algorithmic hallucination?
Thank you to all the students for participating! 🤟
