How did New Yorkers in the 19th century brew their beer? 🍺
During History on Tap Friday, May 29, you’ll have the chance to both taste craft beverages from contemporary breweries, cideries, wineries, and meaderies, as well as see our ca. 1803 brewery fired up and running! Watch as costumed educators grind grain, fire the kettle, add wort and yeast, and demonstrate how a brewery in the 19th-century would use gravity to facilitate the brewing process.

Why use a salt shaker when you could use tiny individual salt cellars with teeny spoons?
Before the 20th century, salt was sold in solid blocks that could be scraped for use. In 1911, they began adding anti-caking agents, which led to free-flowing salt. At this point, the use of salt cellars began to decline and was replaced with salt shakers. This set is still in its original satin-lined presentation box with individual depressions for 6 cellars and 6 spoons.
