The Kemuri cocktail at @_uncletiger is a very sophisticated whisky-based cocktail, with a fun twist. Thou shall have a fishy. Review in biog. #uncletiger #edinburghrestaurants #edinburgh

Very happy with my charity shop purchase. Mirror, mirror on the wall, I shall appear on Scotland's Home of the Year. One day. #victoriana #homedecor #edinburgh #scotlandshomeoftheyear #charityshop

I had such a gorgeous time at @thecottageedinburgh - there couldn't be a better custodian of this building than @peter_adshead - I had asparagus, the halibut of dreams, hogget and a chocolate tart with miso and candied walnuts. These were part of the five course lunchtime/pre-theatre £55 tasting menu. Dreamy. Review in biog. #edinburghrestaurants #edinburgh #lunch

Lunch today? Just a few wee picky bits while I was judging @scottishstreetfoodawards at @thepittmarket - the first two were from our cracking winner @ember.foodtruck #scottishstreetfood #edinburgh #streetfood #sundaylunch

I went to the relaunch of the newly expanded Jao's Place at @whotels Edinburgh last night, on the eve of Beltane. What views, what cocktails. I had a beautiful Castles in the Sky apple, pear, oolong and voddie cocktail, and a perfect Margarita. Forgot to wash my face in the dew the next morning, cos I was a tad hungover. #jaosplace #whotel #whotelsedinburgh #edinburghhotels #edinburgh

Edinburgh - a very important decision needs to be made. From May 1–3 at The Pitt, the 2026 Scottish Street Food Awards park up — bringing some of the most exciting, ingredient-led street food in the country. Beautiful dishes, top Scottish produce, and traders quietly (and not so quietly) showing off. Here’s where it gets serious:👉 Every visitor gets a vote for the People’s Choice — eat something brilliant, commit to it, and post your ballot in their box👉 Meanwhile, the judges must decide the Scottish Champion — a role requiring expertise, restraint, and the ability to keep eating while looking thoughtful. This year’s panel:🔥 Tyler King — the 32-year-old head chef at Condita, the Michelin-starred restaurant in Edinburgh, where he crafts inventive menus that pair the best Scottish producers with precise, technique-driven cooking (ALSO bringing first-time judge energy)🍟 Jo Laidlaw — a freelance writer and The List’s food and drink editor. She’s been eating her way around Edinburgh professionally for nearly 20 years and she really likes chips📝 Gaby Soutar — Lifestyle editor and restaurant reviewer at the Scotsman, who is judging for what we think is the FIFTH year. Respect. And yes, this all matters — both the People’s Choice and the Champion go on to represent Scotland at the British Street Food Awards finals in Sheffield September 4–6… and potentially on to the European Street Food Awards finals in Saarbrucken September 18-20. Against champions from up to 19 different countries. No pressure, but Scotland DID win the European title back in 2022 with Junk. And Cameron Laidlaw even got to cook on Saturday Kitchen. So…can history repeat itself? No pressure. Just the small matter of national pride. Arrive hungry. Vote wisely. This is your moment. #ScottishStreetFoodAwards #ThePitt #EdinburghEats #PeoplesChoice #EatLocal

Hooray, because today is the first day of @gorseedinburgh - what a beautiful wee cafe. I tried a Tayto cheese and onion pastry and a Guinness and gorse cake, made with gorse that had been freshly picked on Arthur's Seat that morning. There couldn't be a more spring-like and joyous destination. #edinburghcafe #edinburghbakery #bakers #pastries #edinburgh

Mum blowing out the candles on her 90th birthday cake. She didn't have enoigh puff in the end and her six-year-old grandson had to finish the job. I forgot to ask what she was wishing for. I know I'm hoping that she gets another ten years, in decent health preferably. #birthdaycake #birthdaygirl❤️

About a week since I was lying on a beanbag in McEwan Hall, as you do, and listening to Vivaldi's Four Seasons while watching these kaleidoscopic projections on the roof. It's their Enlightenment show, and it's very chillaxing. As good as any sound bath. Om. #enlightenment #edinburgh #vivaldi #projections #edinburghuniversity

I holidayed in my own city, and stayed at @100princesstreet - this wasn't my room. This is the top-of-the-range Archibald Signature Suite that's so fancy and probably reserved for megastars and oligarchs. Anyway, it's an utterly beautiful hotel, and I didn't hear a single tourist calling it 100 Princess Street (IYKYK). Review in biog. #edinburgh #edinburghhotels #edinburghholiday #luxuryhotels #whisky
