1998年に400台限定で販売された「スバル インプレッサ 22B STiバージョン」は、WRC（世界ラリー選手権）でのスバルの輝かしい活躍を記念して開発されたコンプリートカー。ベースとなったのは2ドアのGC8型インプレッサで、WRCマシン「インプレッサWRC97」のデザインを忠実に再現。ボディは職人の手作業でワイドフェンダーが装着され、フロントバンパーやボンネットも専用品が使用されています。
搭載されるエンジンは、排気量2212ccのEJ22改・水平対向4気筒ターボエンジン。豊かなトルクとレスポンスの良さが魅力で、パワーだけでなくドライバビリティにも優れています。足回りにはビルシュタイン製ダンパーとアイバッハ製スプリングが組み合わされ、グリップと乗り心地のバランスも◎。「22B」の“B”はビルシュタインを意味すると言われています。
当時の新車価格は500万円と高額でしたが、今ではその希少性と伝説性から中古市場で1500万円以上の価格で取引されることも。ラリーファンとスバリストにとって永遠の憧れ、まさに「スバルの神話」と呼ぶにふさわしい一台です。
The Subaru Impreza 22B STi Version, released in 1998 with only 400 units made, was developed to commemorate Subaru’s golden era in the World Rally Championship (WRC). Based on the two-door GC8 Impreza, it faithfully replicated the design of the iconic 1997 WRC rally car. Each car was hand-built with wide fenders, a bespoke front bumper, and a vented aluminum hood—crafted to mirror the rally machine’s aggression and presence.
Under the hood lies a 2212cc EJ22 turbocharged flat-four engine, delivering incredible torque and sharp throttle response. It wasn’t just about raw power—the 22B was praised for its balance and drivability. The suspension featured Bilstein dampers paired with Eibach springs, offering an ideal blend of comfort and cornering performance. In fact, the “B” in 22B is rumored to stand for “Bilstein.”
Originally priced at 5 million yen—a premium at the time—the 22B’s rarity and legendary status have driven prices well past 15 million yen on the used market. For rally fans and die-hard Subaru lovers, it’s an everlasting dream—rightfully considered a mythic chapter in Subaru’s history.
