GCCEC ART SERIES! 🎨
Nerang Ballum - People of the Nerang River - by artist Michael Aird, photographs reproduced on clear film mounted on stainless steel, 2004. Since 1990 Michael has worked as an Anthropologist specialising in Aboriginal photographic history. The Nerang River region is important as it is the traditional country of his ancestors and several of his relatives are featured in these photographs. The aerial photographs depict Miami to Hollywell as it was in 1952 and from Hollywell to Coomera River as it was in 1944. These photographs are courtesy of the Queensland Department of natural Resources and Mines. This beautiful piece of art is one of many indigenous art fixtures around GCCEC. The artwork displayed inside the Centre conveys traditional Indigenous culture portrayed through several different themes and mediums.

Future industry leaders, real world experience 👋
We have teamed up with @griffithuniversity as industry clients for the Creating Better Business program to understand the event industry.
As part of this initiative, we welcomed 24 final year students to the Centre to give them a firsthand look at the operations behind the scenes. This experience will shape a tailored wellbeing strategy grounded in real insight of the events industry that the students will work in teams to present at the end of the program.

If you're wondering why our grounds look noticeably greener over the coming weeks, that's because we've had a refresh ⛲🌱
Last week, our landscaping team gave key outdoor spaces across GCCEC a new look, removing overgrown shrubs and weeds and replacing them with lush new greenery to create a more welcoming arrival experience for every guest, delegate and visitor.
We planted:
🌱 22 liriope evergreen
🌱 40 lomandra
🌴 14 golden cane palms
🌴 12 nicolai palms
🌿 Plus 30m³ of forest mulch across our garden beds
It’s all part of keeping our venue looking its best while supporting smarter long-term maintenance and sustainability outcomes. Even better, these gardens are watered using recycled water, helping us care for our grounds while reducing our environmental impact.

🌱 Grown at GCCEC 🌱
Another beautiful plant you'll come across on the GCCEC grounds is the bird of paradise flower. Scientifically known as Strelitzia reginae, this bright and bold plant has incredible foliage that resembles a crowned crane, and interestingly, is a close relative of the humble banana 🍌
Thriving in areas which are rich in warmth and sunlight, the bird of paradise plant can live for decades and features evergreen leaves and sunset-hued flowers (Always Golden, some may say 🔆).
As a sustainably-focussed venue, all plants in our gardens are lovingly cared for using only recycled water for minimal impact on the environment. Keep an eye out for these striking stems the next time you give us a visit 👋
