Nottingham has played host to the National Sprint Championships since 2019, where you get to push yourself on a world-class course and timing system. In your own lane, it's you against the clock. Competition has always been tight, and it's a hell of a place to compete.

Nottingham plays host to the National Sprint Championships and you can expect an incredible atmosphere as we get to showcase SUP racing to the wider paddling community. Hosted at the @paddleuk sprint championships, our competition takes part in the thick of the action for our fellow canoe and kayak sprinters. The races for us take place over 200m with individual lanes and there categories, high-performance, Challenge Race and Juniors. It’s a fast, energetic and exciting day on May 31st - one not to be missed.

The first event of 2026 will always stand out for me as it’s the one we kicked off our new Join The Future strategy. JTF is focused on pushing our sport forwards, building for the future and putting in new, modern processes to deliver better events and races. Two core pillars of the strategy are Technology and Juniors.
Bringing in younger paddlers to the sport is going to be a challenge. We need the paddling community and SUP especially to turn their eye to youth and not treat it like and add on and to also not be solely focused on our own objectives as paddlers, clubs and professional organisations. We have drafted a pathway that can drive this and now it’s time to get this into the public domain and give our sport the biggest nudge forwards to drive adoption and areas of focus.
Technology and using modern systems will be the core backbone to our JTF strategy. For years we as a volunteer organisation, staffed by the community, we have relied on manual processes, spreadsheets, paper and 3rd party tools we have to work to. For 2026 we have striped that out and this year sees us bring in our own custom built event management and operational framework putting down the foundations for SUP specific race timing, management, partner and paddler hubs and a more engaging experience for all that are involved in our sport.
Up next is the two flagship events, our National Sprint and British National Championships.

What a way to open the 2026 season at Llandegfedd Reservoir.
Fast racing, tight battles and an incredible atmosphere on the water made the event one to remember. From first strokes to final sprint finishes, the level of paddling was outstanding all day long.
