My response to the @touchdesigner.yvr monthly creative prompt for April, BUGS. Or rather, since my suggestion MOON came in second place in the voting, I'm doing MOON BUGS. The lightning-bug-inspired bugs are constructed from scratch in POPs from a collection of lines, tubes, circles and spheres, with animated buzzing wings, and copied several hundred times using a point cloud template. Their positions are being controlled by noise-modulated noise, with a hint of audio reactivity causing them to reshuffle their formations in time with the lows. Half of the bugs light up with the kick drums, and half with the other rhythm elements. The moon is using one of NASA's photos taken by astronauts through the window of the Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II mission, on initial approach to the moon, with a fair bit of processing to give it a more in-atmosphere glow rather than its original extreme sharpness. Then I added some wispy noise-driven clouds that partially obscure, blur, and catch the light of the moon. Created in @touchdesigner and running in real-time. Accompanying chill music is Weeks of Void by Wormhole Hitchhiker.

Some direct visualization of sound waves (presented as light waves ripping through the cosmos) for this month's @touchdesigner.yvr prompt, WAVES. This radial burst oscilloscope pattern is created by mapping the left stereo channel to X and the right to Y, but with a slight phase delay to give it more of a circular or swirling or stellated profile, varying with what frequency of waves are dominant in the spectrum. And it kind of looked like something stellar but really fast, so naturally I had to set it in space and add a whole mess of particles. Milky Way Galaxy courtesy of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Accompanying audio is Space Warp by Bop & Subwave. Rendered in real-time using TouchDesigner. #touchdesigner #oscilloscope #spacewarp #waves

Reflecting on summer prairie sunsets from years past for the @touchdesigner.yvr monthly prompt, REFLECTION. This was an exercise in making everything from scratch in TouchDesigner, with no external textures or geometry. I'm making liberal use of the Copy POP and a whole lot of stacks of Perlin noise everywhere to make grass & waves & clouds dance to the wind, with just a touch of audio-reactivity. The lighting has some interesting tricks in it, rendering the clouds from the other side and using that as a projector map for the Sun's light, to give extra animated dappling. And the water has a few more layers of trickery to it, including a bit of custom GLSL to manage the highlights and distortions. My response for the @touchdesigner.yvr monthly prompt, ERROR MESSAGE. I constructed a voxel Earth, using a variety of textures from the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio and Solar System Scope (also using NASA imagery). Unfortunately some suspicious software has run amok and corrupted civilization! This is liberally using the new POP operators, plus a very complicated timeline in the Animation COMP, and a few custom components to handle the transitions and text. Space background music provided by @_cy.matic_ using the Beetlecrab Audio Tempera and the Elektron Syntakt + Digitakt. #touchdesigner #error #bluescreen #glitch

TDYVR Prompt response for ERROR MESSAGE made in @touchdesigner Using an audio reactive code scroller that @gborreson and I implemented for my VJ show file texturing a selective deletion technique via the Delete POP. Soundtrack is entirely Windows XP system sounds mashed and pitched on the #digitakt #computationaldesign #audioreactive #vj

My response to the @touchdesigner.yvr monthly prompt, CURRENTS, running in real-time in @touchdesigner . This is using the new POP family of operators, to spawn particles from the inner & outer spheres and join them audio-reactively with electrical arcs. The stacked-simplex-noise-based technique for animating the electrical arcs is inspired by laser artist Seb Lee-Delisle's 2021 project Lightning Catchers.

My response to the @touchdesigner.yvr prompt for October, WISPS. Going for some belated Halloween spooky vibes, featuring will-o'-the-wisps from European folklore: mischievous ghostly lights luring lost travellers into hazardous terrain. Also known as ingus fatuus (foolish fire) or the more familiar east-English name, jack-o'-lanterns. This is liberally using the newly-released POP family of operators in @touchdesigner , to render the scene and control the motion and fading of the audio-reactive wisps, with the scenery being a LiDAR scan of part of the trail in Lynn Headwaters Park. Spooky music: Somnus by Phaeleh, track "Five". #creativecodeart #creativeprompts #willothewisp

I'm going back to space for @touchdesigner.yvr monthly prompt, GRAVITY. But also @jonnyostrem suggested people who wanted to do the prompt on super-hard-mode might also do the two runner-up suggested prompts, HEAT and SWARM! So here's a swarm of comets, orbiting a white dwarf star, somewhere not far away in our Milky Way galaxy, growing plasma and dust tails as they get blasted by heat as they get close to the star. There are 400 independently orbiting comets in the swarm, following a newtonian gravity simulation running in a GLSL TOP in @touchdesigner in real-time. Distance to the star is being used to calculate the length of the comets' ion tails, and rate of particle emission for the dust tails. I liberally used the new POP operators to manipulate and consume attributes to make this all work. The camera is also following an orbital path, from the vantage of one of the comets in the swarm. A little snippet from the Voxelite debut at What If (BitF) festival a couple of weekends ago! Featuring the Voxel Slice animation followed by Rain that myself and @gborreson worked on respectively. This has been such a rewarding collaboration with the amazing @tybotlabs who conceived of, built, and developed the infrastructure for the installation. Ty has been a pleasure to work with ❤️ thanks so much for leading the project and for welcoming us to be a part of it. Also big shout out to @touchdesigner.yvr for providing the space for collaborations like these to happen in our community! Made with @touchdesigner Today Ty is packing up Voxelite and heading down to Nevada for Burning Man, safe travels and best of luck! I hope you guys have the best time out there!!! Shoutout to @b00m.me & @predrift_music for also contributing content to the installation ❤️
