Day 3 of our Hope Happens Here events at Gatis
Hopefully (see what I did there!) we will be gathering around a camp fire and supping hot tea and eating biscuits and having a good old chat from 3pm to 6pm (or even later if we get carried away!) We will be chatting and maybe playing games and getting to know each other or making mad plans for future projects.
We will also be encouraging people to put their thoughts onto our tree of hope - be it gratefulness for something in your life or hopes for the future pop it on a post it and stick it on our tree to share with others.
And don't worry if the weather decides not to play nice we will move the whole event into the community cafe area (ok so maybe not the actual fire) and crack the board games out!
See you there!
Our second session for ‘The Million Acts of Hope’ project takes place on Thursday evening between 3pm – 6pm here at Gatis.
This session focusses on sustainability. We will be holding a Clothes Swap, a Plant Sale and a pop-up Surplus Food Market.
At our Plant Sale we will have young flower, vegetable & herb plants which have all been grown/propagated from seeds harvested by our volunteers from our garden last year.
Our Food Market will be offering a selection of produce that, whilst being perfectly edible, has been deemed waste or surplus for one reason or another (short dated, damaged packaging, over-ordered etc) Please bring your own bags!
Over 300,000 tonnes of clothing are thrown away in the UK each year. At our clothes swap we will have a selection of pre-loved and hardly worn donated garments ready for you to give a new lease of life to.
Everyone welcome. Pay As You Feel/donations appreciated.
UPDATE: we are aware the weather is errrr interesting today. Fear not! Our activities are suitable for indoors and outdoors. We have enough activities to keep everyone happy!
So we are very excited to welcome you to site on Wednesday evening 3pm to 6pm
Our Youth Club members have chosen the evenings activities including their top 10 favourite games and nature connection activities. They extend a warm welcome and encourage any families considering being a part of our youth club to come and play.
Gatis Youth Club accepts local children from the ages of 9 and we also provide mentoring from 16 to 18 to encourage volunteering and community action.
The event is open for anyone to attend and join in - your never too old to play!
We are delighted to announce we are joining in with A Million Acts of Hope:
A Million Acts of Hope is a national invitation to celebrate the everyday acts of kindness, care and connection happening across the UK. At a time when division can feel loud, we want to bring together all these everyday acts of hope and shine a light on the people and communities making them happen.
Week of Action: 13-20 May 4 From 13-20th May, events will take place across the country, celebrating positive actions among communities. During this week, hundreds of charities, faith groups, and community groups will inspire their supporters to get involved. Visit to see all the projects joining in and get involved or see the link in our bio #MillionActsOfHope #millionactsofhope .
So what is Gatis doing for the Week of Action?
Well we are giving you 3 late afternoon/early evening events to celebrate some of our regular projects:
Wednesday 13th May 3pm to 6pm Celebrating our grounds, family play sessions, youth club and caring for nature. Held in the grounds of the centre we will play a range of team and individual games lead by our youth club team and have pop up nature based activities.
Thursday 14th May 3pm to 6pm Celebrating Wolves Waste Not – our environmental projects with a pop up surplus food market swap and swop event for clothing, books, plants and seeds plus access to enjoy the grounds.
Friday 15th May 3pm to 6pm Celebrating our wonderfully diverse community with a camp fire public living room: a space for people to come, have a free cup of tea and biscuit and a chance to just chat to each other and make connections. Time to find commonality and make new friends. This event in particular we’d like to see as many of our community friends as possible.

Warning!
Our clothing bin has been removed as people kept putting in soiled items.
The bin is no longer there and we are not currently accepting donations due to needing desperately to have a big clear out.
So please, please, PLEASE do not leave bags of clothing or other items on the car park - if you do it will be deemed as fly-tipping and reported as such. This can lead to being prosecuted for fly-tipping and no-one needs that now do they. We do have CCTV so we can see who is leaving stuff.
We suggest if you have decent quality items that you donate to the Compton Hospice or other local charity shops in the meantime.
Thank you
