Nuance, 2025, By Gary Stranger
“Nuance is a painting literally about the nuances of the brush strokes. How they intersect, overlap and engage with each other. The subtle differences in the depth and opacity of the strokes is a visual metaphor for the nuances of language, words and their interpretation based on delivery and perception.” - Gary Stranger

‘Aura’ by Gary Stranger
“A piece of work celebrating colour saturation and contrast. An orange / red aura in a person signifies intense energy, passion, physical vitality and a strong connection to the material world. Attributes I strive for. The thickness of the letter strokes is a metaphor for the strength and richness of the aura represented by the piece.” - Gary Stranger.

‘Loop Hole, 2026’ by Gary Stranger
“This painting is about the original meaning of a loop hole. It was an architectural term for the small openings in a castle wall from which archers would observe their environment and fire arrows from a position of relative safety. Operating in a hostile environment from a vantage point of safety-i see this as a metaphor for the online world we are forced to inhabit. Social media, especially.”

‘Brutal, 2025’ by Gary Stranger
“This painting is a rumination on the brutality of the world we find ourselves in. Brutal conflict, brutal truths, brutal politics, brutal discourse, brutal architecture etc etc. Brutality is not an inevitability, it is a choice.”

‘Clean Slate, 2025’ by Gary Stranger
“Painted in black and white to provide a visual reference to chalk on a blackboard. This piece is about the freedom to start again, to pivot and make new plans. This freedom is afforded to all of us, but often inhibited by our courage.
I feel comforted at the thought that I can provide myself a clean slate each and every day. I am not confined by my past.”
