spent the month preparing for holiday sales. i dont really aim for a specific height or width for my cups. i just weigh out 0.7lbs of clay and throw it to be as thin as i can get them and they usually end up being about the same size. these may look big now but theyll shrink to a nice 8-10oz cup size. i aim to throw at least 50 cups per session and ive made about 150 so far. its sometimes a little daunting working with big batches but once i get started muscle memory takes over. i do have to remind myself to take breaks here and there. lmk if u want to know more abt my process. theres a couple more weeks before the holiday season starts so ill be in the studio cranking out more stuff. the googly eye empire is expanding 👀 more abt that in a future post 🤫.
reflections 🪩

can we all just appreciate how this piece plays with the light 😭😭 its usually a metallic color but when the sun hits it it turns blue??!! like howww 🤯 ceramics is so wild and im obsessed. since moving ive been having a hard time finding a good spot to photograph my work so i decided to just take pics all over. the other pics are silly goofy mirror selfies in the various mirrors in my place :). i also find it very fun how this vase is also a fun house mirror. anyways here are some reflections from this year/being out of corporate for >1year:
1) im still figuring out how to find work life balance now that everything is jumbled together. this summer has included many midday naps and telling myself to chill which is a stark contrast to earlier in the year when i would spend 40+hrs a week in the studio. it always feels like i can do more so figuring out the balance of what i can do and what needs to be done is an ongoing exploration.
2) the fun thing about not working 9-5 is that i theoretically have all the time in the week to do all the things like going to an empty costco in the middle of the day 🤩. unfortunately in the name of “i got rent to pay” i fill a lot of my evenings with teaching and that means scheduling with friends is increasingly difficult. im thankful for my friends who make the effort to make it work and that nyc is a great city for spontaneity and serendipitous encounters.
3) i turned 30 this year and within a couple weeks my body told me to chill (i hurt my back and was debilitated for a weekend. were good now). ive been going to the gym more regularly as a result and its been really nice. working out has definitely reduced the aches of pottery and im tryna get my splits back
well thats all for now. cookie for u if u made it this far 🫶🏼

i love having creative artsy friends 😭 like wym yall painted this 🥹🥹😭😭🫶🏼!! this vase was one of many activities to do during my housewarming back in may and since it was so precious i let it dry slowly for a long time before glazing it. it definitely didnt take a long time because i didnt want to carry it to a studio 😗😅. mahjong was played, snacks were eaten around the big table, beverages were flowin in the kitchen, and vibes were immaculate 😌. my place was def warm so ty @hsuwb for setting up my ac unit!
